Who: Thor, Jane, Darcy
What: Darcy's baaack. No one is ever getting rest again.
When: Yesterday, when Darcy arrived
Rating: Yellow/Red (Jane's in the hospital, never know what we'll discuss)

The chair was far too small for him, but Thor wasn't one to complain. After all, Jane was alive and that was all he wanted. Well. More than that, he wanted her healthy, hale, strong, etc but for now, he would be grateful for what he had.

Even if it was frustrating to be in a hospital room with nurses and doctors and others, infringing on what little privacy an expensive hospital room had. And on top of all that, he hadn't had the courage to ask Jane if she'd thought about their conversation anymore. Obviously, he knew that it would take some time to discuss it, but still.

He really wanted her back.

With a sigh, he rubbed at his face, papers forgotten on his lap. "I remember now why I was always bored at my father's knee. These papers are tedious and painful to get through. How is your research going?"

"Not much better. Want to switch?" Jane looked up from her laptop where she was switching between quantum astrophysics and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She reached up to rub the side of her nose.

"We could go for a walk in a minute?" Jane was meant to take a lap up and down the hall a couple times a day. Stretch her legs and make sure her blood was still carrying enough oxygen.

"And then -" Then what never said, stopping when the door pushed open. She turned her wrist to face her hospital bracelet out and prepared to recite her name and date of birth for the millionth time.

And then she was shoving her computer half onto her side table and half at Thor.

"Darcy?"

There was a slight commotion outside the door just before it opened and Thor and Jane could easily hear Darcy tossing a, "... if you had just listened to me an hour ago..." before entering the room and practically throwing herself across the room at Jane.

"Oh my god, Jane," she said, managing to stop herself when she realized how frail her friend looked. "Can I hug you? I really need to hug you, but I don't want to hurt you."

She glanced over at Thor and flashed him a quick smile. She would have to get the scoop from Jane later on exactly what was going on with them, but she was relieved to see him at Jane's side. "I've been here forever and they wouldn't let me in to see you. Tony Stark pulled some strings finally." Something she was grateful for and would need to figure out a way to repay.

Thor stood there in shock. The last he'd seen Darcy, she was sad, having recently broken up with. Loki. They had fed ducks by the pond, and he'd been worried about her.

Then she disappeared, like so many.

And apparently re-appeared.

There was really only one appropriate response. Instead of letting Jane say anything (and barely holding on to Jane's laptop) Thor stepped forward and enveloped Darcy in a crushing hug, barely able to contain himself, a beaming smile across his face.

"Darcy. Truly, there are no words to express my joy at seeing you alive and well. You have returned to us, and in this hour of all hours." He moved back, his hands easily dwarfing her shoulders. "You are a good friend. Jane, my love, you truly have the greatest friend." with a gentle push, he moved Darcy towards Jane.

Jane reached out and did the same as Thor, pulling Darcy down into a hug. Thor's words would have to stand for her as well because Jane found herself too overcome to speak. Instead, tears shortly began to roll to down Jane's face. The past couple months had been hard and Jane had missed Darcy in a way that was only thrown into sharp relief now the other woman was here.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry," were the first words she spoke. Jane didn't know why she was apologizing. For being in the hospital? For the cancer that put her there? For the way she was acutely aware of her appearance: pale skin, dark circles under her eyes, cheekbones too gaunt, and headscarf covering her missing hair.

Something in their position twisted her IV, which began to emit an angry beep. Jane pulled away and straightened out the tubing connected to her arm. The beeping stopped, which hopefully meant no nurse would be in to check.

Being smashed between Thor and Jane was not the worst place Darcy had ever been and she was so glad to see them both that it startled her when the machine beeped. She immediately pulled back and frowned as she watched Jane straighten the tubing.

It was so weird to see her looking this delicate. Darcy did not approve at all. "Wait, what are you apologizing for?" she asked when Jane's words finally penetrated. "You better not be saying you're sorry for being sick." Obviously it wasn't her fault at all and Darcy just felt bad that she hadn't been here for her friend.

"And it's good to see you too, big guy," she said, turning to rest a hand on Thor's shoulder. "I hope you've been taking good care of my Jane."

Thor bristled at the suggestion that he wouldn't be taking care of Jane, who was his entire universe, world, etc etc. Darcy, of all people, should know how completely in love he was with Jane...except this probably wasn't the Darcy he knew from before.

Meaning she was never with Loki.

Oh. Loki. That should be interesting.

"Jane belongs to no one," Thor chided gently with a smile on his face. "She is her own person, and is an amazing one at that." He brushed a hand on Jane's arm, turning to look down at her. Even as fragile as she currently. was, she was still the most strongest person he knew. "We are both thrilled to see you back. You...are back, correct? Do you remember much from your time before?"

Was it mind leeches, like he had suffered from, or was it a completely new Darcy?

Jane reached out and placed a hand on Thor's forearm.

"I don't know why I'm apologizing. I'm just sorry. This isn't what any of us wanted."

Darcy gave Thor a puzzled look. "Uh, no, I don't remember being here at all," she said. "Right before I met Mr. Wizard, I was trying to figure out why a bunch of people turned to dust in front of my eyes."

Now that he mentioned it, she vaguely remembered that Strange had said something about her being around before, but she'd gotten quickly distracted by the news of Jane's illness. "Did I do anything cool when I was here?" she asked. "Did I get to bang any Avengers?" They were all incredibly hot, so she was hoping the answer to that question was yes.

Thor paused at Darcy's query. Did he tell her the truth? That she was practically his sister-in-law in a very volatile (and apparently passionate?) relationship with Loki, of all people.

"You were a diplomat of sorts," Thor said carefully, trying to remember what Darcy's old job was. It was a point of contention between Loki and himself, especially after the break up. "You did some work for Stark. And we made pancakes together. Often." That seemed like a good enough description.

"Jane might know more."

Jane looked hard at Thor. "Chicken." Not that Jane wanted to rip the band id off this particular bad decision either.

"Liaison with the UN helping to get Asgard recognized as a legal country, I think. I lost track of some of it towards the end when I started getting sick and we didn't know why." Jane offered half a smile and moved on to the rest of the news.

"You had a cat called Severus, which I've been keeping. I think you had a small snake. No idea where that went. I assume whatever lives in the Valkyerie's room ate it by now."

"And," Jane took a breath. Not just to gather her nerve. It was a lot of talking and she needed a second to catch her breath. She also took the time to glare at Thor again. "You were dating Loki. It was serious but," she searched for the right word, "volatile. It didn't end well. You guys had been broken about a month when you vanished."

Making pancakes with Thor sounded awesome, as did working with Tony Stark. Darcy hadn't really met the guy yet, but she was already a fan thanks to him getting her in to see Jane. Having a cat was a little bit of surprise and the idea of having a pet snake made her wrinkle her nose.

All of those thoughts came screeching to a halt when Jane said that she'd been in a serious relationship with Loki. Of course it was volatile. He was terrible and she couldn't begin to imagine what made her think dating him was a good idea.

"Did I hit my head repeatedly?" she asked. "I mean, Captain America is here and I went for Loki?"

"Steve Rogers is with Peggy Carter," Thor offered lamely. Maybe that would explain why she chose Loki? "From what I understand, several Darcys dated my brother. You are the first to not."

And truly, Thor had never understood it anyways. They were like oil and water. It was much better now that Loki was with Val. She was practically immortal.

"I congratulate you, this Darcy, for your excellent taste."

"Can we get you settled before we start worrying about which Avenger to date?" Jane asked with the impatient practicality of an older sister. Something in her expression changed and where she had been sitting up in bed, Jane laid back against her pillows before continuing.

"We have your old things in storage. Might not be yours yours but they're to your taste at least. I know you've probably been assigned a place but my old apartment is free now that I'm pretty much moved in with the Asgardians. Unless," Jane looked at Thor, "you could be given a room there?"

"Stark said he'd set me up with a place," Darcy said. "I think I'll start there." Maybe she'd take up Jane's offer at some point in the future, but for now, she didn't want to make any sort of stress for her friend. She noticed the way the other woman leaned back against the pillows and could see how exhausted she was.

She wasn't sure she wanted to live with the Asgardians, even though they probably were fun to party with. "What's Natasha's deal?" she asked with a grin.

Thor didn't really understand what Darcy was asking. He glanced at Jane, but she wasn't giving away anything in her face.

"Natasha is a good friend of mine. I believe she also lives at 30 Warren so if you are looking to speak to her further in order to better understand her, I'm sure you could find her there." He paused. "Or not. She is very elusive."

"Mhmm," Jane agreed. She suspected why Darcy wanted to know but didn't feel like elaborating. "I don't know her well. I'm just glad you're here."

Darcy knew that Thor was oblivious, but that Jane was deliberately avoiding answering her question. At the moment, she was going to let it slide since she was far more concerned with Jane's health and well being than anything else.

"I'm glad I'm here too," she said. "Seems like I got here just in time."

Thor had to nod vigorously at that.

"Yes. You did. And we are both very happy to see you."
