A normal person would have called first. In fact, a normal person wouldn't have made an unannounced visit in the first place, especially not to the home of a man she'd met over the city's social networking site. Gillian Michaels was clearly not a normal person. Extracting the information from the Professor had been easy enough - she'd innocently asked who had suggested that he meet with her, so that she could send a thank you card - and from there it was simply a matter of using her journalistic skills to find an address. Who said that her four years at University had been a waste? This was not entirely a friendly visit. Mostly friendly, as this 'Jeremiah' seemed to share her sense of sarcastic, barely-concealed humor and general distaste for superheroes, but Gillian was not stupid. He could be anyone, from a hero using the forum to draw out enemies to a villain trying to locate and eliminate the competition. He could be an ordinary man with a dislike for the costumed set. Gilly didn't know. That was the point - what kind of Sovereignty Order advance scout would she have been if she didn't go to check the guy out? No, the visit was one-half 'thank you' and one-half investigation. It may have been wishful thinking, but she rather expected that he'd have done the same, were their positions reversed. Gillian could appreciate a cautious and intelligent person, but she had little patience for fools. Given the blackout that was troubling the city, the headlights that swung around the corner were a shockingly bright spot in the darkened street. The Audi pulled up to the curb, parked, and out stepped a petite woman in dark clothes and flats. She was carrying a handbag (with a Taser carefully concealed within easy reach, in case this went ugly). She put her car keys into the front pocket of the purse. Then, at the entrance? She rang the buzzer. |
