"Ugh. That one hurt." Reggie hadn't meant to poof. One second, he was enjoying a group hug with his band and not moving through Julie, which, whoa. Lots to unpack there. The next second, he was laying on a hard floor, winded. Winded. He didn't even have to breathe, and he was winded. He refused to open his eyes until he took stock of himself. He felt heavier, like when he was focusing real hard to move things. He felt his body, all of it, but he didn't have a pulse. He didn't think.
Pressing his hand over his chest told him that no, he did not have a pulse. He felt hungry, though, but he always thought he felt hungry because he missed food. That one time in Caleb's club reminded him what food tasted like, and it was probably a mistake to eat as much ghost food as he did, because now he always wanted more. He was solid and felt winded and hungry and...
"Oh, shit. I crossed over." Reggie groaned and flopped his arms on the floor in a small tantrum. His right hand hit something hard that wasn't the floor, and he finally opened his eyes. His bass was with him. He would need that, maybe, and the room he was in wasn't that big. It was dark, and it smelled like old water and cleaner. "Not what I expected," he mumbled as he stood and put his bass strap around him. "Not exactly the pearly gates I was expecting." Something skittered across the floor as he shuffled his feet, and a light caught his eye before it went out. Stooping awkwardly around his instrument, Reggie picked up a phone like the one Julie used and squinted in the bright light as it unlocked for him. There were contacts in the phone, but he didn't know any of them, so he just put the thing in his jacket's pocket to unwrap later. His list of questions was getting long, and he had to focus on the here and now.
He didn't think he'd crossed over. The marks from Caleb had just been removed, and he was hugging Julie and felt strong, and everything seemed like it was going to be okay. So maybe they'd been zapped somewhere else? He couldn't hear anything in the closet, so Reggie walked through the closed door, happy to find that as solid as he felt, he could still do that, and into the corridor beyond. "Hello? Luke? Alex? Julie?" Nothing. No response in any voice he knew. "Guys?"
