When the others had asked if she wanted to watch some movies with them that evening, Myka had turned them down, instead opting to go upstairs and read for a bit. It wasn't that she didn't like spending time with the others - in fact, for the first time in a long time, she actually felt like she had friends and not just co-workers. She had just decided that she wanted to have a quiet evening and catch up on some reading while waiting for Pete to get back since working at the Warehouse didn't often allow time for that.
Looking over at the clock, she saw that it was getting late. That really had been one hell of a mess Jack and Pete had made. Putting aside her book, she looked over at her ferret, who was entertaining himself by chewing on his rubber rabbit.
"All right, Lucky. Time for bed," she said, picking him up and taking him over to the cage she had gotten for him to live in since the other one had been so small, she put him back inside.
She gave his head a few scratches, still amazed at how attached she had gotten to him, considering that his appearance had been the result of making a wish to go home. Of course, she had never expected that she would become attached to anything having to do with the assignment to the Warehouse, especially not Pete. Yet there they were, in a relationship that made her happier than she could remember being in a long time. At first, she had been so scared about letting another partner get close after what had happened to Sam, but Pete was so different and so wonderful even if he could be a kid sometimes.
After making sure her door was unlocked so Pete could come in when he got home, she went back to the bed and started reading again. The next thing she knew, she felt Pete kissing her forehead as the bed shifted. She must have dozed off. Smiling softly, she opened her eyes and looked at him.
"Liar," she said with a laugh. "I know what you're like, Pete. I'm sure that soon enough you'll be cleaning up another mess, and Fred will have another artifact to fix."
After putting the book aside, she turned on her side to look at him, resting a hand on his chest.
"Missed you tonight," she told him before leaning forward to give him a kiss.
