Jack had been dozing on and off when he felt Fred kiss his forehead. He had tried to reach for her but missed. Slowly, he had started to drift back to sleep, only to be woke up by Myka yelling at Pete and John banging on his door. H stumbled out of bed and went to it. The moment he opened it and saw the look on John's face, he knew something was wrong.
Quickly, he followed the other man down the stairs. When Myka told them Pete had a vibe about MacPherson following Fred and Cait to the store, he felt like his world had been tilted. He wanted to reach over and grab Leena, and demand why she had let they leave. But at the moment, they needed to get to them before MacPherson did.
All of them scrambled up the stairs to grab their weapons. When they came back down, they went to Jack's car and piled in. Soon they were tearing away from Leena's and speeding toward the town's only grocery store.
"I'm sorry," Pete said from the backseat.
"It's not your fault, Pete," Jack said.
When they arrived at the store, Jack parked the car next to Cait's and all of them got out. He saw their bags on the ground next to the car and felt his throat tightened. "Fred! Cait!" he yelled as he started to scan the parking lot. He then spotted one of the store's employees wandering around so Jack grabbed him.
"There were two women with this car. Did you see them?" he asked the younger man.
"Uh, yeah. I was pushing a cart back to the store and I was going to ask them if they wanted it," the man said. "Then there was this flickering yellow light and I don't know what happened next."
"You didn't see where they went?" Pete asked. "Was there anyone else in the parking lot with them?"
"There was a tall man in the parking lot, too. He was walking over to them about the same time I was," the man said. "And no, I didn't see where they went. It's like they just disappeared."
