Hazel's cheeks burned, and she couldn't settle on what she felt most: surprise at what Ernie had said about her, the desire to answer him right away, guilt for being so easily distracted from her worry for Michelle, immediate worry for Ernie.
"Well, I hope. It's all we can do, right?"
She reached out, plucked the vial from his hands and set it aside so she could hold them instead, smiling shyly.
