Ernie couldn't tell what the IS was doing. They were out there, that much he could tell, but whether they were moving on or still trying to figure out what had happened, he couldn't tell.
There was a part of him that really didn't mind, not one bit, that they were out there. In fact, he almost wished they'd hang around for a while.
It gave him more excuse to stay where he was.
Ernie looked down at Hazel, though it was dark enough that he couldn't really see her. But she was nice and warm and soft and he maybe, just maybe, pulled her a little closer, holding her a little tighter.
