Terry gave a small snort of humor at her comment referring to house elves. The boy had always thought they were funny little creatures but he never looked at it in the way Parvati explained. They were conditioned to do whatever was instructed of them and inflict self pain if they were unable to follow orders. That was worse than going out to the yard to pick the switch someone hit you with.
