"I know," Michael admitted with a sigh. "But I insist on getting points for effort. I tried to distract you, you know?"
He found that his smile came easier the further sway they got from the library and the more the returned to the 'real' world where the past didn't seem to linger between the pages of a dusty old book. Moments later they were out in the fresh air and Michael took a deep breath as if he had been suffocating before, but hadn't been aware of it. It was cool, crispy, bright, windy and wonderful.
"You really want to study now." It was something between a statement and a question because much as Michael enjoyed academics, he wasn't entirely sure how well his mind was going to cooperate. And yet, Michael felt that Lavender needed something between enthusiastic help and a complete miracle to help her catch up with the things she missed due to detentions.
"Promise you won't get yourself into any more trouble, okay? I mean, you're a Pureblood and we know they go a little easier on those, and you managed to piss them off so badly that you've been punished like a Muggle-born." He couldn't quite keep the note of awe out of his voice. It took serious skill to annoy the Carrows that badly.
