“I’m fine!” Alicia yelled back, not turning her head as she cast another Protego to ward off a purple curse that was on a straight collision course with them. At first it had only been the whizzing and buzzing of the magic she had heard, but now, ever so slowly, the screams from the people running for their lives seeped through, until her head was filled with the cacophony of chaos.
She looked up to see the ship that seemed to be one of the preferred targets for the wizards in black robes and white masks. It was huge and white, and on deck people were milling about, some screaming to the people on the dock while others were falling over each other to get back inside, away from the deck.
“No!” she screamed when she watched a young girl jump off the ship and into the water. Even though Alicia was wearing a thick jumper the cold was still seeping through, and she didn’t even dare to think how cold the water was. Without waiting for Oliver, she set off in a sprint towards the edge of the dock, though didn’t get very far, before she had to duck behind a cart loaded with luggage.
“They can’t go in the water!” she panted desperately, struggling to get out of her jumper. “They’ll freeze. We need to get them out. Dammit!” Her hand – still clutching her wand – was stuck in the sleeve, and right above her a suitcase exploded, sending pieces of singed and smoking clothing rain down on them.
