Sometimes Katie forgot how well Alicia knew her, could read her like an open book. Of course she told her best friend everything, anything she deemed important, or mundane, or just generally interesting, but she also tended to forget that Alicia always knew that things Katie hadn't said, or didn't think it was important to say. She took a deep breath and stilled her hands, listening to the other girl and knowing she was right about all of it. Still, she didn't want to talk about this, as necessary as it was - she was suddenly exhausted, drained of the emotions that had been pecking at her before, and she went to her old standby defense of humor. She tried to crack a smile and hoped that she wasn't failing too miserably.
"Since when have I ever wanted a proper night's sleep anyway?"
