Not having a date to the ball didn’t really bother Susan. Sure, there was someone she would have liked to ask her, but he was apparently too much of a chicken. So, she and Hannah decided to stick together for the night. The pair were determined that they were better off without boys - for the night, anyway. They could be each other’s dates, in theory. But they were obviously both hoping that some boy would pluck up the courage and ask them to dance. They were girls, they couldn’t help it! The whole concept of the Yule Ball seemed as though it was instated specifically for the female half of the population. For it seemed that almost none of the boys were truly enjoying themselves. Except for Roger Davies, apparently, who must have thought he was the luckiest guy in the world to snag Fleur Delacour as his date. And, sure, some of the other, older boys were taking full advantage of the situation, leading their dates off to secluded areas of the grounds to do Merlin-knows-what. But the majority of the male species was still seated, staring awkwardly around the room, trying to avoid their fate.
Susan and Hannah were critiquing discussing various girls’ dresses when Hannah decided that she wanted a drink and left for a moment. The brunette sat back in her seat, smoothing invisible wrinkles out of her own pale blue dress. Her friend had only been gone for a moment when she looked up to see Terry approaching her. He said her name and then the words seemed to get stuck. She raised her eyebrows at him, urging him to continue. But when he didn’t, she smiled.
“Hi Terry.”
He looked awfully nervous, but quite cute in his dress robes, even if he did need a haircut.
