Holding her breath for a few seconds, poised to hear any sound out of the ordinary, Penny recognized it almost as soon as Jocasta started speaking - human voices, coming closer. She couldn't see, had no indication that they weren't just townspeople - perhaps meeting in secret for whatever reason, clandestine lovers, maybe - but she knew that it wasn't something she could take a chance with. Whoever they were, they didn't sound happy. And, even in the most positive of circumstances, she didn't want to be suspect to their questions.
Shaking for reasons now that couldn't be contributed entirely to the cold, Penelope waited for a moment to make sure they weren't too close by to see her just yet, before moving quickly - in one swift, quiet movement, she slinked back, across the center console of the front seat, pulling the tab on the back seat which would open the seat, forward, and lead into the trunk. She would have to wait there, that was all there was to it. If they were people she didn't want a run-in with... at least she could make the vehicle appear empty. She couldn't risk driving off now, alerting attention to herself.
Penny moved as quietly as possible, trying to stay hidden from view, blessing her slight figure as she curled into the cold trunk and pulled the back seat back into place behind her. Leaving the seat only a tiny bit forward, enough to hear and see a bit, she waited again - a hostage in her own car.
