Xander had never thought of himself as special.
To his parents he would always be the price they had to pay for taking risks too young in life.
His friends loved him but saw him as someone that needed to be kept safe, taken care of.
He was the normal one. The nothing special one.
Or so he’d thought.
As Spike sat listening to yet another of his irrelevant ramblings, his attention focused fully on Xander as if what he was saying truly matter, Xander started to wonder if just maybe there was one person who did think him special.

Spike had very little patience when it came to learning. He’d lost track of the times he’d driven Angelus to the end of his rope always wanting to forgo the lessons and just get to it.
Teaching was another thing. Spike had all the patience in the world when he was the one dealing out the lessons.
Straddling the body beneath him, he hesitated long enough to savor the wide-eyed look of disbelief before slowly taking him in deep.
Watching shock turn to awe boosted Spike’s ego and reassured him that he was definitely going to enjoy teaching this one.

If asked anyone who really knew Lindsey McDonald would tell you the man had the uncanny ability to always get what he wanted. Once he set his sights on something it was as good as his.
And if anyone had bothered to ask Lindsey only a week ago what it was he truly wanted in life the answer would have been simple, success and power.
But that all changed the day one do-gooder vampire with dark soulful eyes walked into his world and tilted it off it’s axis.
Since that day his focus had shifted and become slightly blurred. Victories were no longer counted by the number of cases he could close in a week but by how often he could get Angel to say his name with that brogue tinged accent. Or how often he could rile the vampire into actually putting his hands on him, getting close to him. Close enough to send his libido into hyper drive and giving him ideas he knew were more than dangerous.
Rereading the note he’d found on his windshield, ‘When you’re ready to stop lying to me, you know where I’ll be.’, he knew it was time to decide his real goal.
