On October 8, 1964 Charles Xavier found himself considering tactical manoeuvres as he sat and listened to the subdued talk over breakfast that morning. Leaning back in his chair, the professor's eyes moved from one student to the next. Given that they were at war, educating them was the least of their concerns, practical matters such as learning defensive and offensives techniques were, mastering the mutations they had either been born with or had thrust upon them from the heavy radiation within the States. Many were learning at the expected pace and others excelled, outstripping the rest by leaps.
He shifted in his seat, silently counting the heads at the table. There was only one human seated amongst the mutants and it had Charles wondering just where were the rest? He knew that Shaw saw them as less then the dirt they stood upon daily but surely he didn't kill them all? They had a young man, a fifteen year old human, who had told he and the others how RTF had attempted to subdue him ... which meant that they were being brought somewhere.
But where?
Everyone was important and needed their help, perhaps the humans even more so than any mutant would. Charles pushed from the table and quietly left, heading to his study. The next day would be spent in a way that many found shocking when it came to the telepath; Charles had left early on the Ninth, taking only one other mutant with him and several hours later they returned with an unconscious Resistance member. When questioned, Charles had smiled and answered. "Someone must know where everything belongs, surely."
Abusing his mutation was something which Charles steadfastly refused until now and he spent a long time alone with the RTF mutant, door shut to the rest. It took some time but he found out where humans were being kept, facilities by the name of Instituere and Paenitentia.
X-Men members were selected and on the 11 they set out for the facilities, arriving to a large building surrounded by a metal wire fence which was the easiest of obstacles, however the Resistance Task Force who guarded the building were more of an issue. They were the best trained of the RTF and of a higher level of strength then those they had fought before, after entering through a whole torn through the fence in a secluded spot they moved in, keeping to the side of the building. They had been told to get in and out, to not engage the RTF unnecessarily but to use all force at their disposal to take them down if they came in contact.
It was simple: find the people that Shaw had taken prisoner and forced into the facilities, remove them and bring the back to the mansion. It might have seemed sentimental but there was no way that they would claim integrity when they left innocents to be tortured and killed.
