Carson was so glad to see Belle again. They had wanted to take her with them when they had gone out to Atlantis a few months before, but the IOA had refused, apparently worried about dog hair getting into the equipment. Never mind that the city had seen much worse. Like mud. He was grateful, however, that his in-laws had agreed to watch her for them.
As Belle squirmed out of Cait's arms and started running around the porch, Carson looked over just in time to see Sam toss a balled-up napkin that Fred had handed her at Cam as he slipped his arm around her, her ring flashing in the setting sun. Amelia had ended up winning the pool when the two of them had announced their engagement.
"It's a good thing I love you," Sam murmured to Cam.
Carson then looked at Cait. "Think now is the time?" When she said yes, he nodded and took her hand as she told everyone their news.
"You're making me a grandfather?" Jack asked, holding his tongs. "I'm too young to be a grandfather."
"Sayeth the retiree," Maggie responded, rolling her eyes with a snort before going over to Cait and Carson to hug them. "Congratulations, you two." She then turned and looked at her husband. "Jack!"
"Yes. Sorry. Congratulations," Jack said, putting down the tongs so he could hug Cait as well and shake Carson's hand. "Really, all kidding aside, I'm thrilled. I get to have a grandkid to spoil rotten."
Maggie shook her head. "Like you didn't already to that with the kids."
"Not the same."
"Congratulations, you two," Sam said as she moved forward to hug both of them.
"So when are you and Cam going to have kids?" John asked with a laugh.
"I think we need to get through the wedding first," she told him.
