Did he always have to be this negative about everything? The response came back promptly - yes, of course he did - always had to find the reasons and responsible reactions to things, had to be the sound kind of reason to tell her why she was so impossibly wrong and all of the other things in between. It was infuriating, outrageous, and so completely, wonderfully familiar that part of Rose just didn't care. Let him be as angry with her as he wanted, let him go on for the rest of her life telling her how stupid it was for her to act the way she had, to take the risks and put herself in jeopardy because at least then he was there to tell it all to her.
So rather than become petulant and protesting at his reaction, Rose only put her hands into the pockets of her jeans and bit her lips lightly against the blossoming start of a jaw-breaking grin. She might find reason or cause to apologize for it later, but now she was too busy feeling buoyant, elated joy at being this near and close to him again. That kind of feeling wasn't one that would be taken away lightly, even if he continued this outraged tirade for a few hours longer.
"Right, there can be teams," she said, "but what's the point? Putting all of those people in danger for the work it would take one capable, knowledgeable individual - being myself - to accomplish in a few hours' time? No point in scaring everyone else right on out of their shoes, better use of their time is making sure no one else spirals down into a void." And where was he in all of this? rattled around in her mind and involuntarily, Rose's eyes darkened to hard, mirrored surfaces of glass and she walled up that topic away to possibly never be revisited again. No need to worry the Doctor with the way his human counterpart had been acting, especially when the oddities were probably entirely in her head.
Right, told myself that one before.
"And he wasn't happy about it, but I wasn't about to let him jump on in behind me just because he was worried about keeping me safe. Had to protect him, it's what you told me to do, make sure nothing happened to jeopardize, no paradoxes here! So if you think about it reasonably, stop looking at the Rose Tyler is a human who shouldn't do these things on her own side of the coin, you'd probably see that I made the same decision you would have." Truth hurts, doesn't it? Trying to protect someone isn't always best, but we do it because we think it's right. Pot, meet time traveling, space hopping kettle.
"And yes, that's right. Jack Harkness, same captain we both know well. He's been giving me a place to stay with him since I came here."
