She sent him a note of the romantic persuasion.
It was messily scrawled, somewhat. As messy as the slender loops and curls of River's handwriting could manage to be. Saying this:
dock. 17:30. Look down.
She could just as easily have walked from her place in the Mayor's mansion to the house York shared with Tex and Church (and Caboose) but this lent to itself an air of mystery, and River enjoyed being ever the enigma. If York was capable of surprising her, perhaps she could do the same. So, logically, the next step was to post the note on the front door, ring the doorbell, and run. Be well out of sight by the time it opened.
Really, some days she wondered why she didn't just move in with them -- they liked her well enough. York especially. Obviously. But moving in would mean moving out of the Mayor's home, and that would render it empty. Did a house have purpose if no one lived in it?
The Dock. River climbed down a rocky slope to reach the still-frigid water, better, now that there'd been some warmer days. It was nice enough that she could kick off her shoes and raise her skirt a little to wade in the shallow end, waiting for York. She'd made something for him. She hoped he'd like it.
