"The stories in Oz," Elphaba replied, noting the woman's confusion and disbelief. "Not the stories of Oz." She folded her arms a bit, placing her parcel on the grass (which was, of course, a wonderful shade of green), and stood, ready to explain.
"Oz's folk tales and what you'd call fairy-tales were unanimously religious in nature. How the Unnamed God created the world, the Fairy Queen Lurline's misadventures, and countless little stories to frighten children into submission." She paused, remembering hearing more than one warning account concerning a witch of some sort.
"Everything was left out of the books in here," she said, giving a light shrug. "I suppose it leaves more room for propaganda."
