It was no secret River liked physical contact. She thrived on it because of the way it grounded her -- made her feel as connected as the rest of humanity. (Of course, it could provide disconnect, if the hands were moving in an unwelcome fashion, but that hadn't been the case for quite some time.) Furthermore, people were warm.
