She pressed her hand against the plastic partition in order to keep from being thrown when Chip stopped. Indeed, he was used to these games, waiting patiently and eyes on the ever-climbing numbers of the meter. He could afford to wait.
"Hey, you leave a girl alone in a town like this for long enough without someone to remind her that there's better fish in the sea...she starts to get desperate." Red laughed, even, unable to hold back the tiny, malevolent smile that said it was all a joke. Finally she gave.
"Come on, Barney, did you really think I was being serious? I mean, me? Go steady? No. We're not like that." She didn't know what inclined her to throw on that last bit. It just sort of...slipped.
