"It was innocent." River spoke in a small, quiet voice. But no one would be listening to her anymore. Church -- York -- had pushed away from her so fiercely, she was left looking at empty hands suspended in midair. Why would he do that? The familiar face with an unfamiliar violence in the way he moved.
And Church was something special to her as well...
She approached quietly, her expression blank. "Church..." She laid a hand on his forearm. York's forearm, a strangely tender motion. "It's a game of forever hide and seek. Hide in a stolen house, it falls around you." Her hand moved up his arm and curled around his neck. "Hide in time, it flees." She didn't know how much longer his brain could take the strain of this, but her hands remained casual, turning his face toward her, bringing him almost close enough to kiss.
Which was exactly when she tightened her grip painfully in his hair, forcing his head still for the few seconds it took to eject Delta.
