"I couldn't stop it," Jack said, brushing aside her platitudes. He'd heard the words 'I'm sorry' one too many times already today. And while he knew Rose couldn't have known and didn't mean it the way Remus had shouted earlier, he just couldn't take another 'sorry' from anyone. Jack closed his eyes briefly, fighting whatever wave of emotion threatened to spill but knowing that he couldn't hold it off for long.
Opening his eyes once more, he found himself staring straight into hers and the watery quality they had was his undoing. Sucking in a shaky breath, Jack lifted his hand to his face, quickly wiping away a traitorous tear. He hadn't cried since Tosh and Owen and he had been determined to keep it that way. But if anyone should see the true side of Jack Harkness, it was Rose.
"We were out. All night," Jack laughed softly, but the tone had a touch of bitterness to it. "He had wanted to stargaze one night and I could never refuse him. God, I had just yelled at him for forgetting his coat at home, knowing full well why he did." Jack's gaze travelled away from Rose's, glancing at the discarded greatcoat. "Will have to get it to the cleaners." He'd have to, now, no more soiling his coat with some unknown alien parts only to find it clean and hanging by his desk the next day.
