The tips of her fingers were once again tingling, the overexerted energy screaming around in the back of her mind and begging for a release. Rose had kept this secret so tightly locked up and walled away, and now the possibility of it coming out was singing through her veins, begging for release. If it was known to the world then maybe somehow it wouldn't seem so bad, wouldn't seem and feel like her fault - as if she had done something wrong. He trusted me to take care of him, to make him better, and this is what happened. I did this. I did this to him.
It was an irrational truth but in her mind it was pained, and sometimes pain was enough to make someone believe what wasn't true.
"He went down there alone," she said quietly, "after everyone else had left. The quarantine, it's just there because it's meant to be safer for the unknown species, to keep anyone from getting scared and doing something that they would end up regretting. And I don't like it, but they placated me when the procedure began by giving me full reign over the surveillance tapes. And I saw.."
The invisible wall she'd had on her emotions and feelings shattered like a broken piece of fragile glass, and then there was no holding back any longer. Tears slipped from the protesting corners of her eyes and coursed, diamond-like, down and over her cheeks. She had been holding them back for so long and now there was nothing to restrain her any longer. Not when he was looking at her that way, stripping the defenses she held in place down to nothing.
"He killed it." Three small words, and they painted her face with an expression of horror, fear, pain and self loathing all at once. "Without provocation, without reason, he just...went in there and killed it. And the way he did it.."
