The evasion in his voice was strange and far from unnoticed, and she would have remarked on it but then he took another route of questioning and the openness that had grown in her like a small, new flower was locked up and away, best left hidden for another time. Because he had gone there, to that place, down a road that she had hoped against all other hope might remain hidden. She should have known better - there was no avoiding it this time. The elephant in the room was going to need attention at some point or other. And it was better dealt with sooner than later.
"Actually, he isn't at the house much." Rose focused her attention suddenly, abruptly on the napkin in front of her as if it held the answer to the rest of the world and the universe itself, just waiting for her to figure it out. "Tends to keep busy. Started working up at Torchwood and was pretty fascinated by having his own desk, the chair with wheels...kind of like a kid."
And kids commit murder all the time. Right. That just guarantees they grow up to be little deviants.
