A woman's voice calling out either his first name, his last name, both, or his first, middle and last name usually spelt trouble for the London Merchant. It just seemed as if there would be no other reason for any woman to call out his name otherwise.
She seemed a little cheery today. David's interactions with Saito's daughter were very limited. He never asked about Saito's family and, well, a man foolish (or perhaps ignorant) enough to wait for Saito to be the first to speak would have to wait for a very, very long time.
It was somewhat reassuring to be addressed by his last name followed by the suffix '-san'. He was half-expecting 'David-chan', 'David-kun', 'stupid foreigner' or something of that derogatory nature. After all she gave him the impression that she didn't like him even if she never pointed out what exactly he had done to offend her. Though, given how many people didn't like David, perhaps he was just easy to dislike.
He moved his hand away from the doorknob and turned towards her, offering her a slight bow that might have seemed odd but wouldn't look too out of place in an office in London.
