This morning, Bastien would find Dietre. He would. The building was big, but not so big he couldn't navigate it in search of a friend. He'd been remiss the day before. There were too many things happening and he'd gotten terribly distracted, which wasn't at all fair to the younger man... who was strangely not at the piano and also not at dinner later. Perhaps he'd gone outside for some sun? It seemed unlikely, but the world was full of very unlikely things and a great number of them seemed to be living here, so why not? Maybe he had a sudden yearning for fresh air and vaguely ominous scenery.
But today, Bastien was opting to make his attempt early. If he woke before the kitchen became busy, he could be in and out quickly; coffee, pastry, perhaps some juice for the vitamins. That was something he needed to watch more closely now that he was giving blood to Ari with greater regularity. He needed to stay hydrated and maybe have a nice orange? Or was the movie representation of blood donors and orange juice the stuff of pop culture nonsense? It was a fair question, if only the resident doctor in the building didn't hate him.
Cecilia was a nurse, wasn't she? He could ask her.
While the coffee was brewing, Bastien diligently searched through the kitchen's many, many cabinets and drawers until locating a tray. It was silver, or possibly silver-plated, because of course it was. Bastien almost hated to touch it, because there was no touching it without leaving smudges, and that did sort of ruin the presentation. He compensated with a nice linen towel, crisp white, before pouring two mugs of coffee and two cups of juice. Then followed a bowl of fruit, a pair of almond-dusted croissants, and a couple of napkins. The fruit could be problematic with the piano, but the napkin would help.
It was strange that he could not yet hear music, but maybe Dietre was having a nice lie-in upstairs. Bastien might make it to the piano before him. Of course, then the coffee might grow cold, but it was a short walk down the hall to refresh it. Pleased, he collected the tray and started for the foyer, humming quietly under his breath.
