Steve was now in the hot seat, but wasn't as worried as he had been with Fitzgerald. He looked to the SHIELD Lawyer with a calm expression. He had noticed how drained Tony looked on the stand. None of them had been sleeping much, but Tony was human. Steve had the Serum, which fought off fatigue toxins, and Thor was a god. Tony had an impressive suit, but he still had human needs. Steve would have to make him sleep when this was all done.
"Mr. Rogers, you seem to have the respect of your peers everywhere you go. Do you know why that is?"
"Not exactly, Mr. Nelson. I'm just a guy, but people see something I don't."
Nelson nodded in agreement. "Why do you think Mr. Stark and Thor followed you into a fight they had no stake in?"
Steve looked to Tony with an arched eyebrow before continuing. "Once again, Sir. I just asked, and they came with me. I suppose that's what friends do."
Nelson responded. "Are you taking responsibility for what happened?"
"As far as this goes, Tony was just helping his friends. I asked him to go, and he did. Same with Thor. If I had it my way, I would take all the punishment."
"It is looking like that is how this goes, doesn't it Mr. Rogers. But the main question is, what makes a man help people he knows nothing about? You have only been back with us for few short months. And here you are...Helping American Citizens. Citizens that the government deems as less that human. How does that sit with you, Mr. Rogers."
"Like I told Mr.Fitzgerald, human criminals do the same things. They don't have the same offense as mutants, but their souls can be just as corrupt as a Mutant. I offer any assistance possible in stopping those type of mutants, but not Charles Xavier and his school."
Nelson walked toward the Judge with a faint smile. "What it seems to me, is that these men were only helping their comrades. Take that for what you will. Nothing Further." And Nelson and Steve walked back to the table with Stark and Fury.
The judge spoke up. "We will break for lunch, then call final witnesses, and present evidence." With that, he hit the hammer and the people began to file outside the court.
