The event had not been planned. SHIELD had decided the Avengers had the potential to be a hot commodity. So far, they had done very little to make an impact on the world, other than a small rescue here and there. Otherwise, their biggest effort had been to helping the Mutants and even that had been months ago. So without warning, SHIELD set up a Christmas party to check in on the band of merry heroes and see how they were progressing.
Steve Rogers had come home at 1400 hours to see many men setting up tables. A huge Christmas tree had been erected in the lobby, as well as decorations all over the place. Elves, Santa, and little snowmen were almost everywhere. Of course the dining table had been elegantly furnishes, as well as small activities for the team. The bar was stocked full, knowing how much Asgardians liked to drink. Steve couldn't believe it.
That was hours ago, and now it was 1900 hours, and Steve sat with a room of SHIELD agents he had never met. They asked him questions about the team or how things were going, but he didn't really know what to say. Honestly the only members he knew anything concrete about were Tony and Thor. He wasn't about to give any of those secrets away. So instead, he stood sipping his scotch and being bored to tears. It was one thing they forced him to wear a Christmas sweater, but it was another he was in a room of 200 people he never met. On top of it all, he didn't even know if everyone on the team was Christian. He was pretty sure Peter might be Jewish, but he wasn't sure.
