Wanda was extremely unhappy, and good things never came of that. For hearing that someone was exclaiming to be the son of the Scarlet Witch, brought nothing but pain and anguish all flooding her mind at once. After finding herself within the walls of this place; memories had been slowly seeping into her consciousness. Remembering the lose of her children on the best days left the woman mad with grief. But for someone to claim something so outrageous, was as a punch in the gut. The woman was twisted with hatred, and yet curiosity for this person. Who dare think so highly of themselves to claim to be her child? Or was it a trick; had she been found out and this a way of luring her?
Despite the danger, Wanda had to know. In the form of a nurse, she had went in searching for the source of this rumor. Maybe it was just that, nothing at the end but words that got misconstrue along the way. So help the young man, had it really came from a belligerent lying tongue. When she came upon Billy Kaplan, it'd been days of investigating throughout the fellow prisoners. And she'd almost lost interest, being pulled back inward to her pain and grief.
Curled up in the corner of his cell, Billy was cold and tired and lonely. At least at the Avengers holding area he had Teddy with him. He didn’t quite understand why he was transferred here. What the purpose was of sending him to such a notoriously dangerous facility, especially if the Avengers were so "concerned" and afraid of what he could do... maybe Nick Fury was here of the Scarlet Witch? Were they even trying to help him or shut him up forever? He didn’t understand and he had so many doubts... so many people driving him in so many different directions he had no idea which way to go, what path to take- this was so not what it was supposed to be like to be a normal teenager. Wasn’t it enough dealing with the hardships of being gay, Jewish, adopted? Now he had to deal with superpowers? Could he just worry about homework and school, midterms?! Ugh... not being mentally unstable or something...
Being lost in his own thoughts, in his own worries it took him a moment to realize he wasn’t alone. A nurse was standing in front of his door and Billy had come to realize that the staff didn’t always mean something good. Sometimes you were summoned by doctors who were known throughout Arkham for horrible experiments... like Doctor Crane... or Doctor Walker... It all depended on who wanted you and what they wanted you for. Thus far Billy had been doing a good job of being quiet and invisible, other than asking for the Scarlet Witch. Had that gotten him in trouble? What other reason would a nurse be here? It wasn’t meal time, recreation time and they weren’t giving him any medications... were they? Maybe he had a visitor? Never the less, her presence startled him.
"I... didn’t do anything wrong did I...?" he asked, folding his legs up to his chest. "Can I see Teddy yet? ...Or my Family? Mr. Fury? ....Wanda Maximoff? She might be able to help me."
Wanda stared into the cell at first glance with narrowed blue eyes, the child was rather pathetic wasn't he? Although somewhere deep the woman felt sympathetic for him; this place was a dark, brutal, torturous place where only the strong would survive. He wasn't seeming to be surviving all that well. Her child, he'd be strong. That of his family, his … manipulative, destructive, venomous ... No remembering her family wasn't pleasant either, it caused anguish as well. The nurse stared, almost through the young man on the floor, it seemed for a long moment before emotion returned to her face and then eyes. Perhaps it was the mention of the name that really had caught her, reeling her attention onto the present once more.
She spoke with no regard, and complete detachment from the original question. Her only alertness seemed to be at the mention of her name. “Why, young man, would Wanda Maximoff be able to help you? Why is it that you think this?” The woman entered the room, closing the cell door behind herself. Then walking to the center of the room itself. “In this place, why would a stranger want anything to do with you?” Staring at him, with a hatred in her eyes. A hatred that couldn't be helped, for this boy if he was the one.
If Billy could make himself invisible now... but no, he was no a coward. He could defend himself, even though using his powers was probably a terrible idea. The Avengers wouldn’t like that would they? But that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to defend himself. He didn’t trust anyone in here and he wasn’t going to let down his guard. So, he supposed being huddled in a corner wasn’t exactly the best place to be now was it? He stood, sighing and considering the words the nurse spoke. He was tired of repeating himself- to the Avengers, to the X-Men, the X-Force, would no one listen to him? Not even his own brother believed him.
"Because..." he began, standing up, to make his point but trying not to seem too aggressive. "I don’t believe we are strangers. My brother and I are twins. The Scarlett Witch gave birth to twins- and Tommy and I happened to have similar powers to Wanda and Pietro Maximoff... it just can’t possibly be a coincidence . I know it... I can feel it. I know it sounds crazy but... I have to know for sure... if I can just talk to her." he could sense her hatred as he pleaded with her, not understanding why she felt this way and frowned, wondering if she should just clam up, and not talk to her about the Scarlet Witch anymore. She didn’t seem to walk to help him with the matter.
Wanda listened to the young man, and watched him intently with those piercing blue eyes. Her focus had been hard to keep, the woman recognized the fact. Wanda knew that some day had been harder than others; at times she'd lost days, or found herself wandering in some part of the asylum without recalling how or why, others, she'd been under strict detail of the staff, even restrained under the hand of one of the doctors, of which she for some reason hadn't fought back. So the woman fought so hard to stay focused as Billy spoke; although it become easy once she heard what he had to say.
For some reason instead of becoming angrier, she merely became more curious. Although not to say without guard to her thoughts. “So, you think similar circumstances are enough to make claim that you're the Scarlet Witch's son?” Crazier things had happened. Maybe it was just wishful thinking, for Wanda would have done anything to have her children back. She was fighting an internal battle between being consumed with anger at the boy for rehashing her history, as it was hard to live with .. without a stranger holding it out in front of her. And hope, happiness, and the sheer wonder that ought she not recognize her own son? But she wouldn't let her guard down, not as long as she kept her focus. “What of everything people say of her? Doesn't that frighten you?” The nurse folded her arms over her chest, looking more intrigued now, than previously.
Billy looked down at the floor. Frighten him... well of course it did a bit but... he had a lot of powers too that could be scary and he didn’t want the world to be afraid of him. It would make him hypocritical to hate the Scarlet Witch. He couldn’t be afraid of her. He couldn’t believe that all the things she did was truly her doing. It couldn’t possibly have been. She was an Avenger, an X-Men. She never would hurt anybody. She... was his mother. He kept these thoughts to himself but spoke truthfully when he answered. "I’m not afraid of her. I don’t think the whole truth about her has yet been discovered. I want to find out for myself. Since no body else seems to be bothering." he said the last part with a bit of an attitude.
He was frustrated that no one seemed to be listening or even considering that the Scarlet Witch could be innocent or manipulated. He didn’t know how he knew. He just did- as if they were connected somehow, as if there were a piece of her within him... maybe there was, he didn’t know but he felt sadness somehow and a yearning for her that couldn’t ever be filled by his adoptive family, despite loving and appreciating them with all his heart. "If I die trying... I just want her to know... I am her son..." Billy sat down on the bed now and hung his head low.
She smiled softly when Billy stated, I don’t think the whole truth about her has yet been discovered. I want to find out for myself. Since no body else seems to be bothering. He was dedicated to finding out, Wanda knew this, for she saw the passion in his heart. The kind of passion she knew in herself, and had seen in her father … her brother. The young man may have shared traits with her family after all. Wanda had to know, it would take a great leap of trust and mostly faith. If this was some trick, the boy was an awfully convincing piece to the she-raid.
The woman couldn't help feeling sad when the boy sat, hung his head and spoke of wanting her to know. Wanda slowly walked over, and sat beside him. Shifting her form to her true-self, and then placed a hand on his shoulder ever softly as not to frighten or startle him. The other to raise his face to look upon hers. While speaking to him, she reached out into the realm of magic to find if she was able to feel any sort of connection with the boy.
Before coming upon him, she was convinced that the person rumoring to be her son was an outrageous liar. Never to believe it but now, now the possibility stirred her mind awake more than anything had since her arrival here. “I would want nothing more, than to know my son... my sons, are alive. You must understand it's hard … I know not who to trust, or even what to believe. But if you are my son, trust me that I will never allow myself to loose you again.” She spoke from her heart, tears falling down her face. This hadn't turned out the way she was expecting, her children were all she wanted.. all she ever wanted.
Billy watched with wide eyes as the woman before him changed to the Scarlet Witch, her magic so powerful- living up to every bit of rumor that had been whispered about it. He had not even sensed or detected a single trace of it and he knew it was because she did not wish him to. But now he could sense every part of her, every emotion, the love, the resentment, the confusion... the poor woman so conflicted and torn to pieces by those around her and he felt so very close to her it only confirmed his convictions. They were literally two kindred spirits. Now was his chance to prove it to her.
How badly he wished to wrap his arms around her and to pour his heart out to her and tell her he felt exactly the same- to call her "Mother." But they were both afraid, so terrified to scare the other off. What was he to call her? Wanda? Scarlet Witch? No name felt appropriate enough to address her, none matched the emotions he felt, only "Mother" but he dare not address her as such until he had her approval. Her touch, so gentle, so warm, sent a shiver down his spine and into his very soul. "I do... That’s why I want you to use your powers so we can both know for sure. We can meet on the astral plane."
Billy knew that confronting the Scarlet Witch on the astral place meant coming face to face with her as his true self, at his most powerful, yet leaving his body vulnerable. She would be able to tell for sure that he was her son, though it would leave him open to attack. Clearly, anyone challenging the Scarlet Witch on the astral plane- short of Charles Xavier, Jean Grey or perhaps Emma Frost- would be the biggest fool in the universe. She had to know he was legitimate if he was willing to meet her there.
In the magic Wanda cast to hid her true appearance, the woman unconsciously created a barrier; nothing of her was able to cross it and neither was anything able to pass through it. However the moment she reached out, the barrier collapsed. Not only was Billy able to sense every part of herself, but she was able to detect bits of him and indeed felt a connection. His emotions almost mirroring her own, the frustration and resentment foremost. At those he called friend, and allies... at those that were responsible for locking him up in this place. Wanda didn't know for sure, everything was so difficult these days.
Billy suggested meeting on the astral plane, and at first... the part of herself that was still skeptical and uncertain, become very wary. Narrowing in searching deeper, the woman came up short handed with nothing but his desire to prove that he was in-fact her son. Wanda nodded, “Alright then.” Was all that the woman said in response, after a long few minutes of seeming thoughtful over the matter. Of appearing non-trusting, but only out of self-preservation.
