Bundling up two kids to handle the winter weather was never fun. Trying to do so as hurriedly as possible so she could see Bonnie had been a recipe for disaster. Charlotte was beside herself, basically sobbing because of how many clothes she’d been stuffed into, obviously not enjoying the hat, gloves, coat, and thick socks she was being forced to wear as Caroline pushed the stroller through town. Even the pacifier wasn’t soothing her like it usually did. Hope was no better, having refused to get into the stroller, determined to walk because she was a ‘big girl’. Which was why Caroline hadn’t arrived before Bonnie like she’d wanted to.
It’d been obvious that her friend wasn’t quite sure what was going on, and if what Caroline knew of Bonnie’s time in the prison world was true, then she had a feeling her friend was doubting everything. So she’d wanted to get there first to help ease Bonnie into it all, but well, nothing ever went as planned with kids.
Caroline spotted Bonnie as soon as they entered the Bakery and parked the stroller at the entrance, scooping Charlotte out of it to try and calm her down a little. “We’re going to Aunt Bonnie before we get a cookie,” Caroline reminded Hope who pouted at that, looking longingly toward the dessert display before following Caroline as she made her way toward where Bonnie was sitting.
“Hey! Sorry. It was a little more hectic than I thought it’d be to get here.” Caroline grinned as they got to the booth, Hope already scrambling to climb onto it.
