Minerva McGonagall stood at the top of the stairs leading down into the kitchen of 12 Grimmauld Place, four letters held in her hand. Down in the kitchen the members of the Order of the Phoenix were talking in hushed voices – just like people at a wake, she thought to herself – as they took their seats around the enormous kitchen table. She looked down at the letters in her hand with a grim acceptance – they were left for her to find and so she was the one to hand three of them over, and to read the one remaining to those waiting for her. Taking a deep breath, she smoothed down the front of her robes and started down the stairs.
