Characters: Blaine Anderson, Cooper Anderson, Quinn Fabray, Kurt Hummel
Location: Hummel household
Warnings: None... possible sap
Summary: The Anderson brothers are reunited.
Blaine found himself settling into a routine over the last two weeks with the Hummel men. They'd spent daylight fortifying the house as much as they could, and occasionally making careful trips downtown to stock up on supplies. The basement and garage were piled with canned goods, weapons, and every other item they could think of to get them through until... well, until hopefully the government found a cure and life returned to normal. Burt had taken to teaching him various important skills such as how to shoot a gun and work on the occasional engine here and there. They'd acquired a generator, which made life much easier, though at night they shut down everything, living by candles and quiet voices so as not to attract the zombies that were roaming the streets and seemed to be multiplying daily.
As they slowly became accustomed to this new life, Blaine found himself grateful for the little things here and there. Like falling asleep in the safety of Kurt's arms each night, and waking up there in the morning. Of Kurt still having his dad there with him, and the two of them knowing the other was safe. Finn, they knew, was safe as well, holed up in the Berry household with Rachel and Hiram, and from what Blaine caught the last time they briefly saw him in town, Puck and Brittany as well. They discussed the option of all of them staying together, but they'd need a bigger place for that. For now, it was easier to just make certain to meet up on occasion and check one another's safety.
Blaine hadn't brought up his proposal to Kurt to Burt yet. He wasn't certain when would be a good time for such a thing. He still wanted to have a little ceremony between them, but they were so busy constantly checking the house during the day for any vulnerabilities, and quietly making contingency plans at night. Mostly, he just fell into a fitful sleep each night beside his fiance, trying not to think too hard about what the next day would bring.
Nights were scary. Often, zombies would wander around the house, scratching at the boards, turning the knobs on the doors, attempting to make their way in. It happened during the day to, but the sounds at night were what made it worse. He knew Burt worried of a big enough crowd that night be able to tear their way through the boards, and that was why they usually stayed pretty quiet, only running the generator when it was needed.
That night, Blaine was seated on the back of the couch that they had moved up to the main windows--boarded other than small holes for look-out purposes. Burt was putting something together for them for dinner--probably baked beans and Twinkies, which had kind of become a staple in the house--and Blaine wasn't certain what Kurt was up to. He shifted his feet up to the window sill and leaned his chin on his knee, playing idly with the shotgun leaned up beside him, wondering if he would ever truly have the guts to shoot it when necessary.
