Maes Hughes had been a busy man lately. Much of his time was spent keeping an eye on things for just about everyone involved. He'd been busy securing the safe house for Roy and everyone before, when he'd been the one confronting the enemies of the Survey Corps. Maes knew that was what his job was. It's what he was made for doing, after all. He was still an Intelligence officer and that was something that would never change. While Roy and Alphonse had joined the Military Police to get into the interior, Maes had opted for the Garrison upon arrival. He easily could shift between all the worlds this way, after all.
He was still Roy's right hand man, through and through. Nothing about that would change, ever. He'd even secured a bakery for his darling wife. He knew this world was hard on Gracia, especially with them both being here without Elysia at his side. It was a shame, really. He got his wife again, but not his daughter. And she got him back, but their family wasn't complete yet here. Perhaps some day.
In the mean time, Maes helped to keep an eye on the fellow strangers in the Garrison. There were just two others, now that Natsu had changed to the Survey Corps. The fire bending boy was involved with Winry, so of course Maes still kept a close eye on him. And the other two with the Garrison were both children. One was a creepy young man with a butler constantly at his side while the other...Maes was currently tracking him. Most in the Garrison acted like their world wasn't at war, even now after things had been destroyed so thoroughly five years ago. Maes had come to understand the history of this world, probably knew it was well as the Commander himself. It was his job, after all.
He watched from around the corner as the strange kid blew something up, and with a home made bomb as well, from the looks of it. Impressive. However, what really caught his attention was when the strange kid bothered to hand over flowers to a young girl. He smiled gently, stepping out from behind the corner. Dressed in his blue Amestrian uniform, Maes held up a hand in greeting to the kid. "Hey, there. Not bad," he remarked with a whistle. "Was that your creation, that bomb? Gotta say, pretty impressive."
