Sleepless Night

Characters: Isabella Barbary, Open
When/Where: Ravenclaw Common Room
Rating: G/PG
Summary: Isabella is having trouble sleeping, again. Since she can't sleep, she's hanging around in the common room so she does not wake her dorm mates.

Isabella sighed heavily as she made her way down to the common room. It was late. The common room was deserted naturally, as it should be so late at night. It was a reminder that she should be sleeping as well. Although, sleep was something she could not seem to achieve. Her dreams were troubled again.

Easily she dropped herself into one of the the chairs; a chair that just happened to be positioned so it was facing the large open window in the common room. Outside, the mountains loomed as always in the distance. Over head, a million stars shinned like diamonds. It was a calm night, every where but in her head it seemed.

Suddenly, Isabella remembered something. Albus had said if she had trouble sleeping he would come and sit with her, but she was hesitant in asking. It was late after all and she did not want to trouble any one. Still, she figured it would at least be worth a try. She could charm the paper so it found him and if he did not answer, aka he was asleep, it would find a way back to her.

Quickly, she scribbled a quick note:

Albus, if you are still awake and feel like chatting, I'm in the common room right now. Seems my dreams are as troubled today as they were a few days ago. Don't feel obligated or anything. Who knows you might be sleeping...
Thanks,
Isabella

With a quick flick of her wand she enchanted the piece of parchment. One by one, each of the corners folded themselves in until the paper resembled a paper crane. With a graceful motion it flew off in search of the receiver. Bella did not doubt that her charm would work. She was usually pretty good with her wand work.

Leaning back in the chair, she pulled her knees to her chest. Isabella hugged them tightly as she stared out the window. She tried to focus on anything but her dreams, but that was proving impossible. The images, of the blood and death, kept floating back to her. It was getting old, really. There was no reason for her to be thinking this way.

It was making her jumpy. Any little noise was enough to cause her to jump dramatically. Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm her nerves.

So, Isabella sat there a little longer hugging her knees to her chest. Being in the room alone was a bit unnerving to her. So, she waited to see if she would get a reply to her note, or if someone else would happen to pop up in the common room....

A Night in the Common Room [Complete]

Characters: Isabella Barbary & (open)
When/Where: Ravenclaw Common Room, 10:30pm September 1st
Rating: G or PG
Summary: The feast has ended and the Ravenclaw common room is a place where students are passing through. Some stay to hang out and some go right to bed. Isabella is lounging in a chair, restless. She cannot sleep and is looking for someone to chat with to pass the time.

The shadows were soft as they fell across the floor. If one stared at them too long, as Isabella was doing, you could almost believe you could see things that were not there. Maybe a particular dark shadow was something other than just a shadow; something dark that had invaded the tranquility of the room around her. Then again she was sleep deprived and her brain was highly suggestive at the moment. It had been a long day.

At first glance one would think that not sleeping was a sign of being anxious over the start of classes. That was not the case with Isabella. Sure she was worried a little about taking NEWT level classes, but that was not the primary thought on her mind. She had always excelled with her school work. Her mother was too obsessive not to see that she did. Of course she was curious about what her classes held in store, but like all other students she would find out soon enough. She was in no hurry to rush the school year.

As people hurried by or settled into chairs Isabella heard whispers pertaining to the fliers. Seems everyone had heard about them but she was not sure everyone had seen them. There were whispers such as, "Can you believe it?", "I wonder who is responsible", "It is absolute rubbish", and so on. It was all stuff she had heard before. Besides, even if someone believed otherwise she was pretty certain that they were not going to admit it in a Ravenclaw common room. Well, not if they had any common sense.

Biting down on her lip, Isabella turned her attention and stared out the window for a moment. She had already surveyed the common room and had seen several familiar faces but everyone seemed busy in their own conversations. It gave her time to ponder a deeper question. Why was she not tired? Why did she not race up to the dorms and sleep?

Maybe the answer was there under the surface but she was just being a fool and pretending it did not exist. It sure made her life easier if she suppressed the growing thought in the back of her head. She told herself school was more important and that is what she should focus on. School always is most important.

A blond curl fell across her face and quickly she tucked it back behind her ear. Her attention coming around full circle settled upon the common room once again. Cerulean hues scanned the room for a second time. Her elbow rested on the arm of the chair and her chin in her palm. There had to be someone she could talk to, to pass the time...
