Captain America was an icon and a hero for children and people everywhere. He represented patriotism and the unbeatable, unrelenting American spirit and dream. He was the physical representation of hope and faith; to see him was to realize that no one and nothing could ever keep him or America down. Steve had taken out Loki, Nazi, and Red Skull, but during all of those fights and battles, he had never been quite as nervous as he was right now. In this moment, Captain America was like any other man about to pick up a girl for a first date. Battle was easy, fighting was a piece of cake, but taking this girl out could truly wreck him. As it was, his large hands were shaking on the wheel and he had even tolerated that obnoxious rap music in hopes of drowning out his fears, but so far, there was no reassurance. Steve was still a ball of nerves as he pulled into her driveway.
Taking a deep breath, the hero pushed open the car door and stepped out. He tugged his leather jacket down and started up the porch. Perhaps he had made a mistake in asking Claire out. Maybe Steve was not ready to date anyone. Things had changed so much since the forties and he never been spot on perfect with women anyway, but something about Claire gave him pause. He couldn't help, but want to get to know her better. The invincible blond was more than attractive, she was fascinating and he felt a sort of kinship towards her. They were both different despite Cap's own unique talents being by choice. She understood what it felt like to be on the other side, looking in and never quite fitting with the rest of the country. As it was, Steve was pretty sure that if he wasn't a hero, he would have been on the hated list for sure.
There was another pause, with another needed breath before he rapped lightly on her door. Clearing his throat, he put his hands behind his back, taking full soldier statue.
