Toki, who's life span was already drastically shorter than even the average person in today's world, could make no promises of second meetings. For him, it had always been important to live each day to the fullest, knowing the very strong possibility it could be his last. Even if that weren't the case, the chance he would escape imprisonment alive seemed highly unlikely, that his brother would jail him just to release him peacefully later. "Don't cry," he told the boy, "That we were able to know one another at all, I'm grateful for that." He smiled at the child then, who's tears only welled hotter in his eyes hearing this, but it was just then Toki felt a sharp impact from behind; the handle of one of the soldier's large spears. "What the hell are you waiting for?! No one keeps the King of Fist waiting; move!" "Hey, this guy thinks he's pretty important, huh? We'll show him just how much he means, when he's rotting away in Cassandra!" Another blow struck him then, this time on the side of his face, causing the children around him to look on in horror, calling his name once more in a panic.
It was at this time, Raoh had already turned away, beginning his retreat from the village along with those he'd brought. When Toki looked for his brother's eyes, he only found his back. But he caught Reina's gaze, for the shortest moment, before she too had to join Raoh's side. If he had chosen to let this go on, his word was ultimately final, one which she had already asked him to change once. Toki held no grudge to his brother for that decision; this was the first time they'd seen one another in some time, but he already had a good understanding of the kind of world Raoh was living in. Were he to say something to the soldiers, when it had already been revealed he'd allow lesser punishment for kin, what would that say to them? The first strike had caught Toki by surprise, but the second he could of blocked, had he chosen to. By not having done so, this seemed to satisfy the soldiers enough, who were content after 'putting him in his place' to give a tug at the chain he'd be led along on.
"Watch over them in my place," was the last thing Toki said, to Sarah who he knew who he could count on to keep these people's hope alive. If it were like that, he wouldn't feel regret, knowing he had to walk away from them now.
The prison of Cassandra was as hellish as it was rumored to be, led by the berserker Uyghur. Should a prisoner step out of line in just the slightest, they could expect to face the heartless lash of his whip, which left several of them with disfiguring scars. Despite the prison being one that Raoh used, Uyghur was allowed complete control and jurisdiction over it, and so, the conditions caused all there to suffer terribly for it. Megar food and water were rationed to the prisoners, while others were forgotten entirely if he didn't particularly feel like giving hand outs that day. More than once, Toki felt the cold presence of death sweep Cassandra's halls, only to see soldiers removing a body several hours later. As a doctor to the people, seeing this senseless loss of life was what pained him the most, more so than anything that was occurring to him. Another in his situation would see that a few times and, coupled with his terminal condition, would feel afraid with the knowledge a painful death was looming right behind him. But Toki was well acquainted with the idea of his own passing, and he knew it would not come--he would not allow it to come-- before he accomplished the final things he had to do with his life.
The girl, Sakuya, came to him, in understanding that was his role in this unfolding story. It surprised him initially, but he was not one to turn away someone who wished to offer him aid in any form. He did not try decode what her loyalties nor reasons were, but simply listened and accepted to the news she shared with him. News regarding his youngest brother. Kenshiro.
