The history of the house of Gornahm is a tale shrouded in mystery and intrigue. Many historians have tried, and failed, to piece together the truth and events that led to the demise of the former High King, the tension between the royal family, and the ultimate fall of the kingdom of Laeltian.

A long time ago, many centuries in fact, the great countries of Iymsford and Valitshire were united under one banner: the unicorn banner of the House of Gornahm, a noble royal family with a legacy of compassion and kindness for their people. However, the suspicious death of High King Matthias in the year 1126 cast a shadow that stretched so far it led to civil war.

For thirty long years, Iymsford and Valitshire waged the deadliest civil war known in history, with brothers fighting sisters, and mothers murdering sons. Only after decimating the population and impoverishing their countries did the royal family declare an uneasy truce, and draw a line down the middle of the nation, dividing it equally into two parts. Those who pledged allegiance to Matthias' younger brother, the handsome Prince Valit, formed a new court; after naming the new country for himself, the orders were made to begin the construction of a Great Wall. Those who pledged allegiance to High King Matthias crowned his eldest daughter, Iym, as Regina, and named their new nation Iymsford, after their lovely monarch.

The dividing Wall, which was only completed at the very end of King Valit's long reign, stretches the border of Valitshire and Iymsford in totality. It is said that the workers who died during its construction were buried in its enormous stone walls.

But that was many years ago. The tale of how the two kingdoms were once united is rarely acknowledged, as the two separate countries have developed their own cultures, histories, and laws, befitting the beliefs of the first rulers. As each new ruler remains loyal to their successors, the mistrust of their neighbor seems to linger, although much of the initial bitterness and hatred has subsided.

Will the current monarchs be the ones to see beyond the errors of the past and begin a change for the future? Or will the unsightly barrier wedged between the lands continue to stand tall for years to come, impacting the lives of royals, nobles, and commoners alike.
