    I don't know if it helps, but one of the evenings this week when things were slow, the worst of it was the userpics. I could get the page to load, but then it'd hang on userpics.

    I was wondering when you might be doing another inactive purge? There is a username I've had my eye on that has only one entry, no comments received or posted, and hasn't been updated in over 2 years.

    I'm unable to upload icons from an external source - I can upload from my desktop one by one but multiple loaders and journalwatcher don't allow me to.

    What are you doing to prevent spammers? Every month it seems something of mine gets commented on with ads, or links to gross things. Today it was ~hagaha, with some stupid nike ad.

    Its getting irritating.. is there something that can be done on your end? A harder captcha image... something? Lol. It seems advertisements have come in only in the last six or so months...?

      Captchas don't prevent commenting, though – that's a big part of the problem. If you have a human register the account, that's it. No more captchas ever, nothing to stop a bot from roaming free. LJ is evidence of this; they have Recaptcha, but that doesn't stop bots from using human-registered accounts to spam. Nobody thus far has been able to come up with another solution, to my knowledge; how can you limit the behavior of registered spam accounts without limiting the behavior of real accounts?

        I have some ideas, such as forcing a captcha after a certian number of comments in a defined period of time.

          the only problem to that is some of us like to spam friends with tfln/funny jokes and other things and that captcha thing would stop us from doing that- i know after entering a code a few times id want to stop commenting for the day. i think if you get a few people that can pay attention to the commenting as it's deleted and marked spam and suspend the accounts right away somehow it'll help a lot.
