New Ads

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
You may have noticed that we are changing out some of the ads on the site. We are testing out a new ad platform which seems to be more geared towards what we do. We are going to closely monitor this and if it doesn't work out we will not hesitate to roll back to using Google ads.
  • How... obtrusive? I understand that you're trying to raise revenue but no one likes being used as a click count for ads. I use the site so much that I would probably buy another paid account to support it and to prevent myself from being subject to ads but, I did once and nothing changed. They were all still there. It would be cool if they were less obtrusive, bright flashing objects that obstructed every page of our journals. But I suppose you have to do what you have to do.
    • These are just going to replace some of the existing ads. Still no popups or takeovers.
      • The existing ads still mess up the content of my journal, anytime I try to personalize my info and now instead of content they're the first thing we see when we go to insanejournal.com. I suppose that is a step under a takeover.
        • that's the one thing i don't like about it is even adblock doesn't even completely block it.
    • Have you tried AdBlock? I use it and don't see any of the ads anymore.
      • Yes! After I paid for them to go away and they didnt, I ended up switching browsers so I could adblock them.
    • You should not see ads when you have a paid account and are logged into that account. If you are still seeing ads can you take a screen shot and open a support request?
      • This was months and months ago, I don't have a paid account anymore.
  • Your ad could be here, right now. and the big black line annoy me. plus, when you adblock it you can still click on the blocked ad even though you can't see it, and i don't like risking accidently going to sites that may give me a virus.
    • I will look into removing the link asking for advertisers, but as far as clicking the ad with adblock, I am honestly not concerned about that. We would prefer that users didn't use Adblock as it hurts the site overall.
  • I trust you to do what is best for IJ and to keep it safe for all of us.
Ads might be annoying, but they do keep this place free.
  • I like this new ad scheme. Less obtrusive and they really don't draw the eye in that annoying want to kill their designer way.
    • i second this comment.
the one i seen before i logged in, wasn't eye burning and looked tasteful.
  • AdBlock blocks every single ad for me, thankfully, but it's understandable that there is a need for new ads!
  • I actually liked the old ads more if we have to have them. =\ This one makes my browsers able to scroll to the side unless I maximize them which is a real pain.
  • Please go back to the old ads or slim down the black divider and take out the BRIGHT BLUE OMG text underneath. These are very intrusive as-is.
  • I just want to say I've used adblocker since I've been here and have never had a problem with the ads. It always comes as a shock to me when I get on IE and remember there are ads -- and those have been very unobtrusive.
  • Worst ads ever. Revert to the old ones.

Thank God I at least have a mac.
  • If the ad price is so low, maybe I'll buy an ad slot and display something pretty ...

There's an interesting idea, actually. Rotating pretty pictures selected by asylums on the front page. It would probably be difficult to run properly, though.
  • I find the new ads quite ugly and obtrusive-- just what I came here to get away from. However, I REALLY object to seeing an ad with an "adults only" caption and a suggestive picture, as I did about a half hour ago...
  • Where would I go to purchase ad space on the site?
    • You can either go to google adsense or you can use projectwonderful. We use both ad networks. Project Wonderful is probably the easier to use of the two.
