The final step of the username purge has begun. You can use http://www.insanejournal.com/purged_usernames.bml to see if a username you want is now available. It is going to take several hours for this process to complete. And, no we cannot provide a time that any specific username will become available.

    Is it possible that the database could take a few minutes to catch up? I'm trying to register one that is showing on the purged page, and showing as deleted when you go to the actual journal, but it's telling me that username is taken when I try to rename?

    do you have any idea what time it'll be finished? aka what time i can stop refreshing obsessively because i don't know if this username has been logged into after the cutoff?

    is there a reason why i can't rename this journal to a journal i own. i made it the same password and everything, but it's still not working.

      Make sure the email and the password are both set the same and then it should work. If you are still having trouble open a support request.

    i have a serious question, what happens to a community when the maintainer journal gets purged? i wanted this one asylum (and thought for a minute i could get it if i bought the name that maintained it) but realized later i couldn't get it because it wouldn't be the same..

    so what happens to the empty asylum with no maintainer? i'd pay a rename token just to get it, you know, but you took asylums off the purge. :(

      If an asylum maintiner is purged and the asylum is no active, you can open a support request to have the maintinership reasigned.

        i made a request and it was public but now it's private? i don't know what that means! do i need to submit a new one or just wait for you to get to the one i submitted?

    I had notifications set up for when certain usernames got purged, but never got those notifs, and now they're already taken. Is there a reason why there were no notifications?

      The notification center is still in beta and this feature is not fully functional.

    And now I just have to wait for funds to transfer to my PayPal account.

    I hate this whole "your card has been compromised" thing, because I could have just used my debit. >_
