I am doing more database work today. If you see any weirdness with the site or if it is unavailable, please don't worry. I will be done before 4pm (EDT) today. If all goes well the site will be running faster and more responsive than ever when I am done.

      Yes,

      If you select paypal as an option, you can use a credit card without acutally signing up a paypal account.

    Thank you! And IJ has always run faster for me than LJ did... and IJ has ALWAYS worked far better on my Treo than LJ ever could.

            Absolutely! It's been like that since day one, in ANY journal style too! Kinda makes me wonder about what LJ did to mess the viewing up. :/

    Sorry to do this here, but I've used the support@insanejournal.com address given as a contact by PayPal, and even tried squeaky@insanejournal.com, but they both bounced back to me. :(

    During the time when the database was going up and down, I created a new account for a friend, upgraded it to a permanently insane account with 500 userpics, and I do have the receipt from PayPal. Right after I did it, it showed up as the order having been made in her account status area, but now it doesn't, it shows her as a free patient and doesn't indicate that there was an order.

    I upgraded it not as a gift but while logged in as her.

    Any way to make sure that didn't get lost when the database was otherwise busy?

    I figured that must be what was going on when I got several "remote site rejected" errors (or whatever similar message it was--I can't remember). Sorry I kept pinging the server while you were trying to work on it!

    I really appreciate that you take the time to let us know what's going on. Have you thought about getting a Twitter account as a way of having a place outside IJ to make announcements?

    Regardless, like I said, I do appreciate the effort; like a lot of people, I understand that outages have to happen.

      I think this is an excellent idea... during the great san-fran people at technorati (which was one of the sites hit) were posting updates on twitter via their iphones unlike a certain other site we could mention which most of us have left...

      Somewhere external to IJ where notifications like this can be posted would be a good idea and twitter is as good as anywhere.
