When: 09/07/14
Where: Darcy & Tony's
What: telling him about the baby
Warnings: None
Darcy still couldn't believe that this was happening. She was always so careful. Darcy had gone to the doctor, too, so she knew that it was truly happening. She wasn't looking forward to telling Tony at all. She knew that even though they'd met when she was already an adult, but he acted like she was still a silly teenage girl. Darcy supposed that it was nice, though, it had been a very long time since she'd had someone to care about her like that. Darcy was determined to do this though. She wanted her baby to have more of a start than she had. Darcy had ended up in college by complete accident. Darcy's mother had passed, and she'd never known her father, deadbeat. So having Tony in her life, and now her baby's life, was definitely a plus. Darcy had told Bruce that it would be great if he came, but it wasn't a requirement. Darcy just needed Tony to completely listen before he flipped his lid. Darcy knew that would happen.
The table was all set, there was a bottle of wine, while Tony hadn't had a lot of any alcohol in awhile, so now just once would be okay. She needed him to be a bit relaxed for this news. Darcy had to admit, she liked that she had someone, two someones, to fuss over her. She wanted to include Bruce. After all, he was Tony's fiancé. Darcy thought he was very shy, but that was okay. That was good for her dad. He needed shy. At the moment, Tony was out, running some errands. He'd been investing so he could start his company here again. Darcy had her hands full trying to keep him from overstressing his heart. So far, though, it hadn't been so hard. He was supposedly working with Luna so that he wasn't dying anymore. Darcy didn't exactly know how that was going, because one, it was hard for her to talk about, and two, he'd been tight-lipped about it. Darcy just hoped that he was at least telling Bruce about it. She really liked them together. They were very good for each other and they loved each other. Plus, Dad's ring was so perfect for him. Darcy liked it a lot, and so did Tony.
Tony headed in the door, and he was surprised to smell food. They were still in Washington, outside Seattle, even though they were doing better than they had been. Tony was still getting used to things, so he'd been slowly letting Luna work with him. He just wasn't ready to be okay with the idea that he'd be completely cured. Tony knew that it was very important for Bruce, and for Darcy. He and Darcy had no other family. They were each others' family. It was really nice. Tony didn't know what he would do without her. It was like he'd used to feel about Potts. Tony supposed that he still did, just not in the romantic way he should, and he knew that. Tony put down his bag, and headed to the kitchen. There were loads of foods. Most of it semi healthy. Tony was glad that Darcy had done this, but he knew that she had to want something, since they usually ordered in or did something simple like soup or something. Tony got a good look at the table. "Um, tuna noodle casserole, grilled cheese, salad, potato chips, brownies..." Tony rattled off. "What the hell is going on, Darcy Victoria Lewis? You only do this when you have big news."
"Don't be an ass, Dad." Darcy replied. It was true, but him being a complete snarky bastard helped nothing. Darcy wasn't sure how to put what she had to tell him. Darcy knew that he was going to flip his lid. Tony was really taking to this being her dad thing. Darcy really liked that, even if she'd never admit it out loud. Darcy wasn't used to having someone be in her corner. Darcy tucked some of her long black hair behind her ear. It really was making her nervous. Darcy had decided to keep it. She wasn't sure exactly what was going to happen with that, because she wasn't exactly prepared to be a mother. Darcy was really quite nervous. This wasn't how her life was supposed to go. She was supposed to get to be with someone who cared about her. Darcy knew that throwing herself away like she didn't matter wasn't exactly the best idea. Darcy was a watcher of glee, at least, secretly, and she recalled Burt telling Kurt that he mattered. Darcy thought that she'd seen Kurt on the network. She shook her head. "Um, Dad." She started, and he looked at her curiously. Darcy tucked away hair nervously.
The world ceased to exist the same for Tony as Darcy spoke. This was really happening? Really? He was going to be a grandfather? She had to be kidding. Tony wasn't sure what to say. He didn't know that he could handle this right now, and he had finally started to get things under control. This could not be happening. Tony stood, he couldn't talk about this right now. Tony didn't think that he could manage to without upsetting her. It was just too much. "Yeah. I'm.... I need some air." Tony went outside, wishing that he could turn back time. He knew that he couldn't change things. He knew that.
