A wreath made from the holly tree and on the door for all to see/greets our friends and family
Who:Aedan Vael, Meghan Vael, Open to all of their friends and family
When: An early New Years Eve/Hogmannay/"First Day" party. Aedan learned last year that he can't handle the day of, and he's having a bad time of it this year, but they wanted to host a party early.
Where: Their home on the Isle of Skye, on the grounds of Aedan's future teen behavioral/rehab center
What: Holiday party/showing off house renovations
Rating: Will update if things get tense, for now I'd say around PG-13.
Trigger Warnings: This is an early party due to reminders of Aedan's past trauma. Discussions of kidnapping, captivity, amputations and force feeding are likely to follow. All threads wil be warned for where appropriate.
Notes: Tag yourself in wherever!
Meghan smoothed her hair back into place under her knotwork tiara, glanced around the large main hall and smiled at Aedan, a little tentatively. Truth be told, with how he'd been feeling lately, she hadnt been sure that having a party this year was a good idea at all, but Aedan had been insistent that he could get some of his friends to help with donations for the future teen center, and that he wanted those who'd contributed last year to get a good look at how things were going here, so...here they were.
Arwen leaned her head against his leg, the young dog trading a look with Meghan that clearly meant to convey "I've got this", while in a small pen at the far side of the hall, a braided and freshly groomed Fizz, with a wreath around his neck, snorted and stamped a hoof. It felt a little odd, the small horse being here, but it also felt very THEM, down to the birds of prey waiting in a darkened closet off the area they were using as a ballroom tonight. She'd bring them out later and put them through their paces too, but in the meantime, greetings, and the food they'd been budgeting, having catered, and making, were the first order of the night. She did enjoy playing hostess after all, and hoped that tonight's dancing might go off well. Aedan always HAD seemed to like it when she danced. For now, though, the first guests were more important, and she just hoped she came off well enough.
Young though she was, Meghan wanted to look the part of a proper princess, and had set up a wide space for the party, hired her uncle's folk band, and so far she and Aedan seemed to have organized well from last year's experience. Her hair, usually worn down, or in a simple braid now, was arranged in her favorite collection of braids and love-knots, some woven through with Aedan's embroidery flosses from the barn (it did pay to have a husband into horse showing and grooming, even if he'd joked she wasn't as still as his horses), and she wore the Starkhaven colors she'd missed having a right to until her marriage, her long "hostess skirt" and sash looking great next to Aedan's own kilt and sash.
Her tiara, gold, with small golden celtic knots interspersed with lab grown rubies, emeralds and "diamonds" felt appropriate for the holiday they celebrated, and had been a surprise from Aedan just about two hours ago, and, dressed like this, among her cousin turned husband, she felt as if she had a right to be part of this family again, instead of just like the charity case they'd taken in as a teenager. Aedan, for his part, looked confident too, even if he seemed exhaustead in general.
"Our first time hosting this as an actual couple." she teased, getting a tired laugh in response that made her feel at least a little better about all of this. She relaxed a little, letting her long skirts twirl a little when the security team texted that the first guests were on their way in.
"Ready?" She asked, and with Aedan's nod, walked to the door to open it boldly.
"We're so glad you could come." she greeted, sounding a bit formal and mature for her age here. "Please come in."
