Noah's bringing Sebastian a lunch. Aedan's still not really able to eat that much, and he doesn't stress bake or stress cook, but there's something peaceful about packing a lunch, even if your husband'll be busy most of the day.
Sebastian’s finishing up on a conference call at the moment, and things are wrapping as he’s getting a text from Jane that Noah’s around if he’s available. He’s grinning at that news, and the goodbyes he’s exchanging sound a bit more pleased than strictly necessary, but, in his defense, this was one of those times Lord Provost duties extend to discussing the opening of a new Waitrose.
While he prefers Waitrose over the other potential options, even though Aldi’s his absolute favorite, he still didn’t want to spend more time discussing permits and zoning for the car park and such. He’s quite happily heading to his office door to wave Noah in.
Noah waves back. "Hello." He ducks in and pushes back his scarf enough to lean to kiss Sebastian's cheek. "I brought you lunch. I was not sure if you had time to take it."
Sebastian’s tugging him into a quick hug. “As it happens, I was JUST getting off a phone call that I could use the time to take a break from. “ He nods toward his desk, where he’s got notes pertaining to permits, contract copies, and similar sitting around.
“Thank you, love. I do appreciate the gesture.”
"Oat cakes, cheese, some pleasant enough apple." Noah set the bag down carefully. "The thermos just needs hot water for soup. Do you want me to stay a while?"
“Aye if you’ve got the time to spare.” Sebastian crosses around to a table across the way. It’s one of those places he has people stop for tea if they’re meeting for a while, so it’ll suit for these purposes just fine. “It’s nice to be able to spend the time with you.”
Noah presents - the second lunch from his coat. "I did bring tea bags and those instant coffee bags if the options were dire today. Zoning concerns?"
“Parking for the new Waitrose.” Sebastian rolls his eyes a little. “It’ll be closer to home than the current offerings, but I never did consider how dull it is to get things into place for bringing one in. Luckily they’ve already gotten all the OTHER concerns settled. Just have to get the thing finished now.”
"Sounds tedious." Noah settled in to sit and spread out the food. "Want me to top off the thermos and get some hot water for tea?"
“Aye so it was. The manager does seem very nice, at least.” Sebastian has that as a general consolation. “So I suspect it won’t be difficult to special order things they don’t usually have. And that would be amazing.” He’s clearing more space on the table while Noah does that.
"I'm still utterly oblivious about shops." Noah peels off his coat. "Aldis is interesting, when I end up in there."
“I like them best.” Sebastian nods. “They DO have the most interesting things. But Waitrose does have the packaged meals going for them. It’s nice when the last thing we want to do is cook, or for the days when I haven’t got you around to deliver lunch.”
"I fear I'm still prone to just making a mug of oatmeal if I'm in that state." Noah hms. "I could do this more often, if you'd like? Work's going to be tonight, so I thought I'd see if you were free."
“There’s times that works just fine.” Sebastian nods. “And that’d be nice if we could swing it. I don’t want to take TOO much advantage, mind you.”
"How is it advantage? I get to have lunch with you." Noah hms. "Shall I get some hot water?"
“I’d think there’s plenty of people who’d suggest I bring you out somewhere.” Sebastian points out. “But please. That’d be good.”
"I'm quite happy being a homebody. I don't mind going out, but this is lovely." Noah pushes himself to his feet. "I'll be back." The little thermos have some broth paste stuff, some noodles, and a bit of cream and fried leeks. It's not a fancy thing, but it'd be a quick creamy soup.
Sebastian laughs at that. “The soup, yes. The setting?” he waves a hand around. “I’m not so certain many would agree with you on THAT.” he has to admit that his office is nice enough as an OFFICE but…
“I swear, we ought to do something with the space here. Find a place to put a nicer table and chairs. It’d do wonders for the tea breaks. There’s a canteen of sorts downstairs but it’s the whole of the building and gets crowded. And, for some odd reason, they ruin the tea. Not the coffee, which you might have expected.”
"Tea bags and hot water, so the only one to blame is us." Noah slid a cup and thermos over to Sebastian. "You'll want to stir the soup."
“That you managed to get it perfectly and now I’m too spoilt for anyone else’s?” Sebastian suggests, and he goes to grab something to stir it, smiling. “Thanks for this. You know, I think I do have chocolates in my desk somewhere.” He’ll have to dig around a little, but…
“One of the shops downtown, chain for a company, sent a load over at Christmas.” He’d brought home other things throughout the season but he’d held a few things back at the office, just in case.
"I did leave a coffee cake with Jane as well?" Noah slid his hand over to Sebastian's. "Chocolate would be lovely."
“I’m sure she loves that.” Sebastian smiles, squeezing Noah’s hand. “We’ve had to have a few conversations about how she’s not allowed to keep you.” He’s only half joking about that too.
"I just thought - well - tea or coffee breaks?" Noah leans to kiss Sebastian's cheek. "You can keep me, if you want."
“I DO intend to do just that.” Sebastian returns that happily. “I sort of like you. Somehow. I suppose there’s something to be said about accounting for taste. After all, YOU like me.”
"Hm." Noah brushed his thumb over Sebastian's hand. "We could do the ribbon thing again you know. Or is that bad luck to do it after you're married?"
“Aye, so we could. We’ve got an anniversary soon after all, do we not?” He can see the benefit in that. “We may want to keep it small, as in family, in order that it doesn’t look as if we’re in it for attention, but..” Sebastian smiles. “There’s actually things I think I can share that’ll be new to you, now.”
"Vacation? Could we have contact if work came up? With the teleporters, only one person would need to travel."
“I think that would be amazing.” Sebastian smiles. “I could take off some time. But for anything ABSOLUTELY necessary, it would be possible to come around. And I’d say it’s a good idea. There has been...a LOT lately.”
"I'd enjoy it. The lakes district? My only requirements is a soft warm bed, but we can always go home to sleep. I suppose Balthier might want to set up a tent? We could camp without camping."
“I’ve been wanting to do that for a while.” Sebastian says. And he snorts. “Leave me out of the tent too, if you please. Balthier’s a little mad, but if he wants to sleep on the ground, I suppose there is no stopping him. I think my bones are just a bit too far past thirty to appreciate it.”
"I believe even at that tropical resort he insisted on a real mattress." Noah stirs his soup and leans against Sebastian while he's eating. "I saw the bubble tent thing that Tony had, and it looked surprisingly nice."
“Oh aye? I’d be willing for that sort of a thing.” Sebastian muses. “Probably depending on the whens. I’d not chance being outside just now, or in a month from now. I enjoy having limbs and them not freezing off.”
"I'm honestly not super fond of the hotels I've been in, when we've delivered bread to them, but that's more - they smell of places scrubbed to be sanitary." Noah shrugs. "I can sleep just about anywhere, but perhaps you could look for what looks good to you? I'm just thinking a rental house or a place we could have privacy or nap without going straight home has an appeal. Cook a breakfast at our pace. We could always picnic it, or go home, but - something about buying bits and bobs somewhere that isn't home is fun."
Sebastian nods a little at that. “I’ve not been in any that bad, but I see the point of it too. Perhaps I’m more used to that sort of thing. And that’s not a bad idea either. “ He smiles “It just depends on the weather. It was 6 today. Inverness IS drier than other places, so there’s that going for us.”
"I've got zero interest in being cold or on the ground. Definitely too old for that." Noah smiles at him. "Can we get some music, you think? It's very touristy, but I think I'd like that."
“That’s something doable.” Sebastian nods. “No doubt my brother has a hotline to every traditional performer or group in the country. Professional, school AND amateur.”
"I'd be up for just buying some cds, but I could see Calum wanting to watch some performances." Noah's just about done with his soup.
“Merchandise is a thing too.” Sebastian nods. “I’d assumed since you said touristy that IS along the lines of what we would be trying for, in either sense.” He sips his tea and looks thoughtful. “And there’s always playlists. He DID manage the wedding one.”
"It'd be an excuse to be in your colors?" Noah smiles at him. "If you'd like that."
“Aye, I would.” Sebastian grins. “We can use it to get photos, maybe? Have some nice ones taken with everyone here now. The animals could even come in for the day if we REALLY wanted to play that up.” He laughs a little at the thought of it, but hey.
"Hm - we could do that here too. Do you want photos?" Noah stretches his feet out. "I'm still used to paintings being the big thing. I think I stood for a few, in the sense that someone was in my armor."
“It may be nice to do. And well, aye, those ARE what we’d have had at home. But the photo idea means someone could do it LATER. Likely easier.” he laughs. “Those poor stand ins. The armor does NOT look comfortable. Or the amount of time you’d spend. Dmitry probably has someone. It’d be worth asking Shay to ask.”
"I suppose they could've just stood up the armor on a stand for laying out the picture?" Noah tries to picture it. "I'm not sure. I avoided the entire thing because the last thing I wanted was to be standing around in my armor for one."
“That sounds FAR too sensible for any army I can think of.” Sebastian grins. “I can hardly think of any organized...anything that would be so intellegent on its own.” He grins. “Ah armor. I do NOT miss the days of assassins and hidden knives and arrows and going around in mine. I did like the armor itself, most of it, but that was so... “ He shakes his head. “Brother Sebastian’s someone I am perfectly content to leave in the far past. Andraste aside. I SHOULD do something with her now that I’m not shoving her in between my legs each morning. Which Anders had a LOT to say about. Varric focused on the fact the armor made me a fantastic target.” And he looks smug here.
“But then, it’s funny. Varric was the one who got himself CAUGHT more often in a fight, now didn’t he?”
"I think Iomhar mentioned a belt buckle." Noah sips the last of his tea. "Shall I pack up and get out of your hair, love?"
“Aye, a giant belt buckle. Golden. Of Andraste’s face. The Maker’s Bride. Which I proudly wore throughout the chantry.” Sebastian laughs. “I have her still. My father had the armor sent, when I became ordained. My brothers...helped...with the other aspects of it. I do think the color was a misguided attempt at keeping things pure and holy, but the buckle...THAT was definitely at least Hari’s hand. They came to see it, and had to put up quite a fight to get that much, but we only got a few moments after. Duties. For all of us.” And he shakes his head. “They weren’t able to write. And everything was intercepted...I’m glad that visit’s not our last memory of each other now. And well. It HAS been quite a while, I suppose.” He smiles. “I lose track of the time, with you.”
And his phone is actually blinking over on the desk. The personal one, which is weird, but probably just one of them now. “And I suspect that’s going to be someone now. I’d best see what’s going on and let you get back to things, too.”
Noah moves to start packing up. "I'll get out of your hair then."
Sebastian waves him off, and then turns his attention to the phone, once Noah’s gone. “...Calum? What’s going on?”
