Brittany yawned and stretched, stirring ever so slightly. She reached her arm out and pulled the comforter around her even more. She had been in a dream. Unicorns had roamed freely and tater tots were in every trough. She had only ever so slightly awoken when a ray of sun had pierced through the closed curtains and blinds. Brittany wanted to go back to that dream reality. It was perfect and the unicorns had already named her First Horn, leader of all unicorns. She threw her arm over the body in the bed and pressed her body close for warmth. “Mmm, you smell good” Brittany said dreamily, as she drifted between the dream world and reality. “And you fit perfectly into my tetris game” she said, after adjusting for the sleep position. She smelled the brunette laying next to her. Her flannel pajamas shifted in the bed and she wondered but for a brief moment who had changed her bed sheets to new clean ones or had decorated her room, but she was comfortable and as in a good place. She chalked it up to the cleaning gnomes. Today was going to be a good day, as her brain shifted slowly back to her daydream reality. Kimberly was incredibly shocked to find someone cuddling against her. She hadn’t expected that. She started, and pulled away, not sure what to do. She didn’t know how this had happened, but she wasn’t sure that she liked it. Kimberly pushed back some hair behind her ear, and then turned on the light. She didn’t know how Brittany had even gotten in here, she had her own room. Kimberly turned to the blonde, doing her best not to sound like she was being judgmental when she said, “Where did you come from?” She had to admit, out of all the people she had thought might turn up in her bed, Brittany wasn’t the person. She wanted it to be Jason. “Seriously, this is so weird, Brittany.” She liked the other girl, but she had to admit, this was incredibly weird. Brittany turned and looked at Kimberly smiling. "I came from Lima silly" Brittany said. I was a funny question. "What's weird?" She asked, a true and genuine look of confusion on her face. She propped herself up on her side so she could look at Kimberly properly. She had to grin a little at Brittany’s logic. Sometimes she was just different than other people. She supposed that she shouldn’t worry about that too much, she didn’t think Brittany was the type to do something like be violent. Kimberly did her best to keep her tone calm and not judgmental or rude as she replied. Not that she was either one of those things. “No, I mean, where did you come from that you were in my bed? I know that you came from Lima.” Kimberly said, shaking her head a little and laughing. Brittany just kept looking at Kimberly while she was propped up. Kimberly’s bed was very comfortable, almost as comfortable as her bed in Lima. And it had nice windows. “Um, I came from my room” Brittany said. “I mean, your room that I’m staying in, the one down the hall” she said confidently. She wondered if she should explain more. “I like staying warm and you looked all warm and snuggly and I don’t have anything to snuggle with, so I came into your room.” She nodded her head in affirmation to her statement. That was still a little puzzling to her, that she had come in to snuggle. Things must be different where she was from. She didn’t know how she would have dealt with that if one of her friends had done that. It was a lot to handle if you weren’t used to it. “Well, I’m just not used to that, none of my friends have done that before.” Kimberly said, but she didn’t feel too uncomfortable she supposed. It’s not like Brittany had really tried anything, and even if she had, Kimberly could have told her that she didn’t feel the same way. Brittany pulled on the covers a little bit as she stretched her body out in Kimberly’s bed. It was just so comfortable. “Oh, really?” Brittany said. “You’ve never had sleepovers before?” Brittany was confused and it showed on her face. “You should have them more, it’s so fun. And comfy and everyone stays warm. It just makes me feel connected” she said. “Does that mean you want me to leave? Or not come back?” she asked. Kimberly shook her head. “No, I’ve had sleepovers before.” She said, leaning back against the headboard. She didn’t know that anyone had ever just crawled into bed with her before, though. “I just haven’t slept with someone in the bed every often. I don’t really know why.” Kimberly said, shrugging. This new Angel Grove was incredibly…. different, and hard to get a handle on. She wasn’t really sure why, but she supposed that she would have to, at least it was still Angel Grove. “I didn’t say that. I’m just not used to it.” She said, not wanting to hurt Brittany’s feelings. She knew about that Santana girl that Brittany had dated, and she didn’t want to offend her, that girl looked scary, and she had no plans to run into her when she was angry. “Oh, ok” Brittany said, pulling her knees into her chest after finishing the stretching. “So if I want to come in and snuggle, it’s ok with you? Or should I just get a big stuffed animal?” she asked. “It’s okay, I don’t mind if you want to come in.” Kimberly decided, she would worry about it if she got a boyfriend later, although, if it wasn’t sexual she didn’t see what the problem was. Kimberly had never been into girls, but that didn’t mean that she never would be. She supposed that she had to be open to whatever would happen. That was just the way you had to be. You’d never be able to really experience life. "Oh ok. That's great!" Brittany said beaming with a huge smile. "You are really huggable. I love it. You're even better than some of the other people I've slept with" Brittany said, nodding her head in agreement. "So, now that you're awake, do you want me to make breakfast for you or something?" She asked, still bundled in Kimberly's covers. Kimberly looked at the clock. “I should get up, there’s school.” She said, nodding. She looked at Brittany. “You don’t have to make me breakfast. My dad might still be here, but I bet he went to work.” She still wasn’t sure how this universe worked, but her dad was remarkably still here. She tucked some of her caramel colored hair behind her ear and then pushed back the covers. “Are you ready for school?” She asked. "I'm always ready for school" Brittany said. "I just have to change clothes and I'm good to go" she said as she swung her legs over the bed. As she left the bed, she turned around and looked almost longingly at it. She forced a weak smile to Kimberly. "Wait for me?" She asked as she walked out the door. “Of course.” Kimberly said, grabbing a pair of pink jeans and a pink and red flowered top. She didn’t know how she was going to continue to keep her secret that she was a Power Ranger from Brittany. She knew that the other girl wanted to be one. She thought Brittany would be a good Power Ranger if she wanted to be. She wished she could tell her, Brittany was getting to be a good friend. When she was dressed, she headed to the kitchen, to get them some Lucky Charms. She knew Brittany liked them. Brittany emerged from her room wearing what had to be the craziest combination of clothing Angel Grove had ever seen. A gypsy style skirt, including the golden fringed belt covered her lower half while her upper half was a white shirt with a kitten playing with a ball of yarn - and the yarn was touchable. Her hair was pulled back simply in a high pony as she walked into the kitchen. “Ooh, Magically delicious!” she exclaimed when she saw the box. She took out a small plastic bag and scooped some into the bag before shutting it. “You always look so good in pink” Brittany exclaimed. “Especially the pink jeans. They’re really good.” Kimberly wondered what that comment meant, if Brittany had figured something out, but she shook it off. She poured some in a bowl with some milk. “You like them, I had Dad get some when we went to the store.” She said. Kimberly had left her hair down, with a headband. She didn’t usually get too fancy with her hair. “Thanks, pink is my favorite color.” She said, taking a bite of cereal. She didn’t know if she should bring up the subject of Brittany’s ex, but she wondered if the other girl needed to talk about it. It had to be weighing on her. Not that Kimberly had an ex, she’d never had a boyfriend before. “Yeah, I’ve never seen pink jeans before!” Brittany said. “Just blue and black and white. And sometimes red” she said with a smile. “I love rainbow. It’s my favorite color” she said as she packed a few more things in her backpack. “And thank you for letting me stay here with you. It’s better than sleeping outside” Kimberly didn’t know if she had ever seen rainbow jeans, but she was sure they existed. Kimberly spooned up some more Lucky Charms. She wasn’t surprised, since Brittany liked Lucky Charms, that her favorite color was rainbow. Kimberly said, “I’ve got a lot of pairs.” This was true. She got them at the mall. “That’s so cool, it’s always good to have backups” Brittany said. “I always hated getting clothes dirty because then they’d have to be washed” she said, standing against the wall waiting on Kimberly. “So, how come you’re not dating anyone? You’re very pretty. And nice.” Kimberly grabbed a glass of milk, too,and took a drink while she considered what Brittany had said. She didn’t know that she minded washing clothes. She had taken awhile to learn how, but once she knew it wasn’t so bad. “I like washing clothes, definitely.” She decided as she ate some more cereal. “I… there’s a boy I like, and he’s not in this universe, which is so weird, because I’m from Angel Grove, and so is he.” “Really?” Brittany said, now staring intently at Kimberly. “Tell me all about him, I want to know everything, including how he smells.” Kimberly couldn’t help but laugh a little. “Well, his name is Jason Scott, we grew up together. We were best friends since kindergarten.” She finished her cereal, and put the dish in the dishwasher. Kimberly wondered what else to say about him, he was amazing and always had been. “I.. he’s perfect, he’s so kind, and strong, he knows all these different kinds of martial arts, and he will help anyone, no questions asked. He is so hot, too. He smells like cologne, and the ocean.” She blushed when she was finished talking, she couldn’t help but blush. He was so amazing. “So he has two names?” Brittany asked, cocking her head slightly. “That’s kind of cool. And why isn’t he here? I totally don’t get that” she said. “But anyone that smells like the ocean is good. Salty is always the best. Not fishy though, because that’s gross.” “His last name is Scott, Brittany.” She said, blushing some more. Just thinking about him gave her butterflies in her stomach. She really was like a schoolgirl and it was kind of embarrassing. “I’m not sure why he’s not here… I don’t really understand all of that. I love the ocean… it’s so peaceful. And I agree about the fish.” “Oh” Brittany said, drawing out the “o” sound for an extended period of time. “That’s like having someone named Kevin David. Because that’s just crazy. Who has a last name of David?” Brittany asked, going off on a completely different tangent. “So, school?” Brittany asked, still holding her bag of cereal. “I wonder what I’m going to learn today about being here.” “Let’s go.” Kimberly replied, and grabbed her own bookbag and headed out with her to the bus stop. Kimberly didn’t have a car, and was used to carpooling with her friends. She didn’t mind taking the bus though. She had just passed her driver’s license test, too. Brittany started munching on the cereal as soon as the door closed behind her. She walked behind Kimberly and stared at the ground. As much as she loved staying with Kimberly, she would rather wake up snuggling with Santana. The thought, at first random, made her smile slowly turn into a frown. She missed her so much. “I wonder if I’ll graduate from here and McKinley” Brittany said for no apparent reason. Kimberly wondered what the smile and frown was about, but she assumed it was her ex and didn’t want to press her if she didn’t want to talk about it. So she kept her thoughts to herself. She looked at Brittany. “I wonder too, I mean, are you still back home too, and here?” She mused out loud, not sure if she believed she was or not. “I hope they didn’t replace me with an evil clone of me” Brittany said. “Or a robot”. She shook her head. That would not do at all. “I hope it’s an evil clone so I can fight it and become the true Brittany.” “I am not sure that I follow that logic, but I hope you’re right then.” Kimberly said, shaking her head. Brittany was really a one of a kind person, and she liked that about her. Not many people were like that, and it was nice that she was. Kimberly ran her hand through her hair and then turned to look at her. “I never really thought of having an evil clone.” “Evil clones always do the opposite of what you do” Brittany said with an authoritative voice. “But I know I’m one of the best dancers and cheerleaders around” she said. “Just have to wait for some serious cash flow, but otherwise, I’m good” Kimberly said, “I am sure that’s true. I haven’t been a cheerleader since middle school. But I do gymnastics. I wonder if maybe I could get into the Olympics, that would be really fun.” She was sure she couldn’t, it was a lot of hard work and it’s not like she had been working towards that her whole life. You would have to to be able to compete. “We could bribe people with my money that I’m waiting on” Brittany said nonchalantly. “And then you could be in the Olympics. It’s all about how many Benjamins you know.” Kimberly chuckled and said, “No, I don’t think so, I mean, you have to have the skills. I mean, I’ve been practicing since I was a kid, but I don’t think it’s enough. I mean, you have to really work and focus on nothing else.” "Yeah" Brittany said, shrugging. "I don't think I could do that either" she said in a non committal tone. "I'm sorry you can't go get a medal. That stinks. But the outfits are cool. Maybe you could organize a mini Olympics here and then invite people and hand out medals. Or something" she said. “That would be something.” Kimberly agreed as they approached the bus stop. This girl was definitely an individual, it was what she liked about her. So many people weren’t. |
