Who: Tony, Morgan When: Pre-dates Bucky showing up Where: The thrift shop near the college What: Tony's doing some work for the thrift store when Morgan stops by. Rating/Warnings: They're discussing Tony's health a bit. Status: Complete
Tony's got the fans going in the shop, and he's working on pricing some stuff to sell online. A few books in decent shape that were rareish enough to sell well, and some fabric that'd be easy to ship out. Boxes of buttons since they got the motherlode in. Which means that he can charge a little more for sorting them out and selling them by color or type.
“Hey hey!” Morgan’s arriving to visit, with her purse on her arm and a couple things sent over for Tony, from Noah, via Ellie. She’s grinning as she appears in the doorway and crosses around. “Long time, no see.”
Tony waves. "Hey. I'm doing fiddley stuff, but I can stop. And there's lunch in the fridge, if you're hungry? How's it going, alt cool daughter?" He's wearing a seersucker shirt and hiking shorts, which feels a little casual for the shop, but college students.
“Not too bad.” Morgan leans over. “What SORT of fiddly things are we talking? Anything interesting? Ooh buttons. Wasn’t there a button finding game in one of those charming 19th century kids’ books?”
"Who's got the button? I don't know how it goes though." Tony's gesturing. "We've got a mountain of buttons, and I'm kind of sorting out the really old ones, and by type. So - fiddley. They sell well online and they're not that heavy, so it's good to ship out some occasionally. Are you hungry?"
Morgan laughs. “Lunch would be a good thing, but no, I think it was...a story about sisters in the early 1900’s..they were Jewish and their mom wasn’t impressed with the way they dusted the parlor so she hid buttons for them to look for? Or something anyway. Maybe I’m remembering that wrong.” She grins a little. “But do they? I could see that being kind of a thing. Button jewelry seems to show up at craft fairs.”
"And there's - scrapbooking?" Tony gets up and stretches his back. "I've got dip, and vegetables, but we could do something hot if you wanted. I'm not sure what your usual preferences are." He's snagging his iced tea. "Want to look around? Or we could head upstairs to the apartment?"
“Veggies and dip sounds pretty good to me.” Morgan smiles. “Lunch is one of those sort of go for whatever’s around meals, so that’s pretty good for it, actually.” She considers. “Hmmm anything new and interesting around?”
"Interesting Victorian stuff mixed in with this button lot, if you want to see some carved pearl ones and some jet buttons." Tony's waving a hand at the bowl set aside. "Uh - 60's era glassware? I kind of want to steal a coffee mug from it. Got a new detective series in Italian that's pretty decent."
“Ooh sounds pretty promising.” Morgan laughs. “Aedan says Ezio was talking about the last one being a lot of fun. Brighter than the other one, whatever that means in terms of detective series. And I’m always interested to see stuff, sure.”
"I think the last one was more of a pound the pavement or punch the thug sort of person. Or it's cheerful? I'm not caught up on the saga." Tony's offering her the dish of Victorian buttons to poke at. "Kind of neat stuff in there. I think the big ones were for a coat."
“Oooh.” Morgan’s sliding her hands through and thinking. “You know. I bet these would be really fun on headbands and stuff. I wonder if Ellie would be interested in something like that. She’s kind of way more fashion oriented than I am and it’d be super cute. I’ll have to grab a picture before I go to show her.”
"How is it, staying over there?" Tony tilts his head. "I mean, it sounds like you get along with them, but - is there anything I can do to help?" He's moving over to gesture to the vintage white glass stuff with the various Harvest Gold styled stuff on it. "The mugs are actually pretty comfortable."
“It’s pretty okay.” Morgan considers. “I mean, a little boring when everybody’s working on things, but I’m looking for schools to finish my senior year at, so I’ll have some work to do soon too.” She glances at the mugs and laughs. “Psychedelic. I feel like they belong at one of those retro themey places.”
"Hey, that's my era. Kinda. Barely." Tony smiles at her. "Still think the stackable ones here are nice to hold." He points. "Also, paintings. The cabbage roses are cabbage rosey. Let me pull out food."
He can tell that he's feeling a little shy about showing his place, which is sort of - before it was his lab - his workshop that was his place. Now it's - here. Here is his.
Morgan grins at that. “Nothing’s WRONG with being retro. I mean, you had cool stuff. The music, mostly, I can get behind a lot of that. And ooh QUITE cabbage rosey. THOSE seem more like they should go in a tea room someplace. Anything I can help with?”
It’s sort of sweet how he seems nervous about that.
"Grab a glass and come on up? I'm not supposed to be hefting heavy stuff, so smack me if I forget." Tony's gesturing toward the fridge. "Chips are in the pantry. I do have stuff for grilled cheese too, if we decide we want something more."
Morgan selects a glass and heads up, nodding. “I can do that.” And grab some chips too, as it turns out, since she’s right near the pantry. “Your place is nice. Suits you.”
"Thanks." Tony grins at her. "It - uh - runs a little hot up here, but there's decent air flow to cool it down. I liked it though." He's bringing over the veggies and the various dip options, and then hesitating before picking up the jug of cold tea with his good wrist. "So you weren't here for this, but I kind of fell. In an elevator. Cracked a bone in my wrist. It's better now, but - doctor said take it easy for a while to be sure."
“Oof.” she makes a face at that. “I’d DEFINITELY take it easy, Geez. How’d that all happen?” She’s reaching over to help him with setting things out so they can both reach them. That sounds like a pretty bad day all around.”
"I think the police officer said later that it was some major power outage after something went weird at the football stadium?" Tony's leaning to steal some cucumber to nibble on. "I was in there with like three teens and a cop, so we did okay climbing out. Spent the entire time getting some super polite Mr. Tony stuff from the rugby players of the group. Which was kind of - cute? I don't know. Can you say that's cute?"
“I think that’s pretty cute.” Morgan laughs a little. ‘And oh wow. Wait was that to do with all of the weird energy drink people hanging around who were seemingly drugged?” She frowns. “Sounds like they were REALLY making the rounds a couple weeks ago.” She’s picking out a carrot. “I’m not about arresting people who go around high on stuff for that reason alone, but it’s really dangerous for them to think they can be invincible and do stuff that hurts people, on the other hand.”
"Oh yeah. And you'd think the college would be more worried about it." Tony sighs. "But I'm doing okay, a least." He's opening up the containers. "Yogurt stuff. Guac. Salsa." There's some chickpeas barely mashed up with olive oil and garlic, and things like that.
“Seriously.” Morgan makes a face. “I mean, I guess it depends on how far off the campus it is and what boundaries are considered what. Oh hey, hummus.” She’s quite happy to find some pita triangles that go with that one.
“You’d think they’d increase the whole campus cop presence at least, though. I get summer semesters are a little quieter but STILL.”
"I guess some of it is that the - connections from energy drinks to the fights aren't adding up yet? Maybe?" Tony shakes his head. "Kind of scary stuff. I'm glad I'm out of the main area around the college. I get students going through, but not the louder stuff." He hesitates. "And it sounds like the crowd with the energy drinks might be seriously bad news, if Ellie hasn't warned you."
He's thinking there. "Are you worried, I mean, about stuff with me? I can try to talk about things. The health stuff."
“Hopefully someone does something.” Morgan considers. “You seem like you’re pretty much okay here, somehow. Like the people who’d do that aren’t the kind who come around here. I hope.” she adds, biting her lip a little. “The health stuff seems to be more the stuff you’re already dealing with. I’m way more worried about say, you having a really bad migraine and hitting your head trying to get around than any of that spilling over here. And you seem like you’re pretty on top of things. But...it’d help if you kept me up to date if stuff DOES happen to you.”
"Uh -" Tony looks thoughtful. "I think I could do that. I've had a couple, but they've been - you saw me on a bad day, when we met. They've not been what I'd call super bad." Tony's leaning to steal a flatbread and try the hummus. "But I can let you know when I'm running rough. I do call people up. Clint, or Steve, or - I called up Tadgh a few days back?"
“I think that would be a good idea. And that’s good you do it. It helps knowing you’re not alone, just in case. I do sorta worry.” Morgan says, giving him a long look. “It’s helped, knowing you’re here somehow, you know? I’d be concerned if you suddenly weren’t.”
That’s one way to put it, anyway. The easiest way she has right now.
"What about medical stuff?" Tony's tilting his head. "Like I could put you as a contact person?"
“You definitely could.” Morgan nods. “I don’t know if I”m old enough to make decisions or anything, but I WOULD like to know, so I can be there if anything happens to you. And uh, maybe I could do the vice versa. It’s sort of hard to do that with people right now.
"I'm guessing Stephen knows the rules on it. Mine would probably have a tedious long list of junk, and I'd want like - Clint and Steve on there too. So it's not all on your shoulders." Tony reaches to nudge her hand a little. "Not planning on bravely offing myself. I promise. Or slacking on taking care of myself."
Morgan nods at him firmly. “Good. Bravely offing yourself is definitely out unless Stephen has a way to reverse time without it causing too much trouble. Which, I think anything around that IS a lot of trouble and results in some problems. It’s one of those just because he can doesn’t mean he should things as I’ve been told.”
"Well, it's magic. As best I know, magic is legal stuff for - uh - run by people I don't like. But I'm sure there's less annoying ways it works." Tony leans to top off his iced tea. "Am I doing dad stuff okay? Or - I don't know how you want me to dad, I guess. I'd . . . kind of like to go out to that beach place again. And take you into town to go shopping. Does that sound revolting or - okay?"
“I think you are, considering you didn’t really sign up for the dad stuff and all,” Morgan smiles. “And I think this works, with us. You know, sort of building up what works for us. We don’t have to be exactly the way stuff looks on paper. Uh, I WOULD like if you came to school stuff, when I have it. I don’t know what that’s going to be, but I’ve been working on getting transferred into one that helps displaced people and they know the family ties are a little bit...weird, given the circumstances. And hey, I’d like that a lot. We should definitely do stuff together. Maybe get Steve in on a movie or something too. Do they have drive ins in this universe? They were pretty much dead when and where I’m from but if any exist, it’s one of those neat older things that looked fun.”
"I bet there's retro fans doing it. Or I think you can buy a little thing to plug into a computer and run stuff at a sheet sort of things." Tony frowns. "I think I'd want to bring popcorn. To a drive in. And blankets. Steve's got issues about being cold."
He's digging out his phone. "So - school stuff. I'm up for that. And last minute shopping if you get stuff for that. No one deserves being stuck alone in a store with back to school shopping going on." Since yeah, he's been in one hunting for headache stuff after a meeting or a salad or something. Even with the entire rich dude in a tower mess. "What's your feelings on crafty stuff or cooking? Steve is into Thanksgiving. Like as a thing where you do a meal and eat together as a family thing."
“I think they usually have it at the places with concessions.” Morgan says. “Pretty typical anyway. And yeah, definitely. That DOES sound like a nightmare to do alone. Crafty stuff I can get behind and sure, Thanksgiving would be sort of a nice thing to do. I’m not GREAT at cooking, but I can follow a recipe and have something turn out edible?”
"From what Steve said, he had trouble when he was sick and younger. He's done well though. I'm one of those - amazed I did something and usually overshooting my skills types." Tony trails off. "He's important to me. You can tell me if you don't want him around and just us stuff, but - I do want to spend time with him and have him around. At least - while we're working well like this."
“It’s cute, you two.” Morgan says. “I mean, it’s not a big surprise, that there’s a reality where you two are a thing just because that wasn’t the case where I’m from. If you have important people, they’re important for a reason. I’m not gonna step in the way on that.”
"But that doesn't mean he's got to be glued to my hip when it's us time." Tony waves a hand. "Okay?"
“Okay.” Morgan says, nodding intently. “That’s nice of you, that you’re making time for me like that. Mom doesn’t date much, I think she loved Dad too much to do much of that, but she did the same thing whenever she DID get persuaded to try, let me know that it didn’t have anything to do with our relationship and that it was, you know, something that mattered.”
"She sounds - well - that sounds weird." Tony grimaces. "I love Pepper. I can imagine us getting married. I can imagine us not working out, because I was a mess to love. But - I'm glad she loved . . . us and you?"
“They were really happy, my parents.” Morgan says. “I mean, I was only turning five, but it was pretty clear after the world went to hell that they found each other again, I mean romantically found, they’d still been close, and that’s how it all came about. I’m glad it worked out for them too.”
"That sounds really nice. Hopefully we can offer that to you here? I mean, the family thing." Tony nudges her hand a little. "You're a cool kid. I want you to be happy."
“I’d like that.” Morgan smiles. “It’d be a good thing. And I like this, actually getting to know a you. It’s nice.”
Tony grins back at her. "And getting to know a you. So what's the school plans?"
“Well, I’m between two right now, in terms of where I’m heading, They’re looking over my records to see where I’m a better fit, same district so they’ll be helping me with making that decision.” Morgan says. “And then, we start in a couple weeks and hopefully I’ll have enough to carry over that I’ll be out almost on time. I'm sort of curious what they have in terms of activities here. Every school’s kind of different, so..”
"I can imagine." Tony's thinking. "So - want to have a standing date for homework? I mean, for showing up here, with homework? I think I'd like that. Not sure I'd be helpful, but - it seems like a thing I should be doing. Maybe - dinner a couple times a week? I sometimes eat late, but I can make sure I'm normal some of the time?"
“That’d be a good idea.” Morgan nods. “I’d like having that as a thing. I’ll probably have a lot if I”m trying to finish stuff up. Luckily, things like history shouldn’t be as big an issue as it is for other people. If anything, this is a little behind stuff I’ve lived, so that should be not such a huge problem, but the tech here is different.”
"I keep wanting to play around with stuff. Might - do that for a holiday. Pick up some stuff and build a laptop or a keyboard. See if it scratches that itch." Tony could see that being dangerous, in the sense of buying a million parts and not being able to repay the investment, but if he's careful, that might be nice. It's like Steve buying art supplies.
“You can do that?” Morgan looks impressed. “That’s sort of neat. I’d be interested to see, maybe learn a little. It’s not completely my thing, but...still awesome.”
"Oh there's dangerous stuff out there for keyboards. Fancy switches and doing your own soldering and all. But - there's stuff where people take old cases and put modern laptop parts in them. That seems fun." Tony grimaces. "Fun for me?"
Morgan laughs. “I could see that being cool. Like a first gen Apple or something.” She smirks. “Or switching up systems with other cases. That would piss off a LOT of tech fanboys. It might be interesting as a social experiment. I mean, no one could say you were doing anything wrong.”
"And possibly fun." Tony smiles at her. "I'm about ten years out of date here too. So that's - that's a thing. Steve knows some of the tech better than me." He's digging out his phone. "So something like this - you could put something in to run vintage games -" He's leaning to show her. "Which I know is utterly impractical -"
But it's sort of cool to run 80's era tech in a box the size of his hand.
