"DID he?" Desmond laughs a little. "I was amazed Shaun had some too, considering he's his boss and all, but..."
"Bill pushed you past normal and it hurt you." Shaun says, simply as he goes to get the cafe door. "And you had a bloody horrible childhood because of him and...look he didn't respect how hard you worked to save the world until you'd done it, and then he tried to play the grieving parent and step away from the work. He doesn't GET that right because he was never really a FATHER, you see. My dad would have never done anything like that to me. He never understood me, but..."
Shaun smiles, and it's softer than normal.
"My parents and my siblings loved me and made sure I knew it. There are reasons I completely cut ties with them when I became an assassin, Desmond. It's not because they didn't love me, it's that I want them safe from danger after all they'd done for me. That's the way it's supposed to be. And another me?" He laughs at that.
"You realize we'd take over the bloody universe in a matter of hours, between us, don't you? I want Australia in the takeover though."
"No worries." Desmond smiles at Yvette. "You're new, you're a friend, you get a coffee or a tea or whatever you'd like. That said, there IS a fund to help you get started here, and you'll have some money in an account, with instructions to access it, but for now, please, let us buy you coffee?"
