Who: Noah Vael, Sebastian Vael
When: Current
Where: Craigcrook Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland
What: Sebastian comes home aching to find Noah snoozing in a chair, and they move to dinner and cuddling on the couch.
Rating/Warnings: Vague references to Sherr's kidnapping, Sebastian's feeling uncertain
Status: Complete
Sebastian's office, likely due to Basch / Noah / the cat, has gained a nice armchair which is good for sitting in while reading over things, or sorting paperwork, or reading drafts of goofy romance novels. Noah helped out a bit with some sorting, and then made the mistake of getting comfortable. So the armchair's got him, snoozing, with Gomez curled up in the crook of his arm.
Sebastian’s heading in after work, and after trying to figure out from the templars what they’re doing with Sherr’s disappearance. Haytham HAS been trying to coordinate things and Shay’s particularly been out and scouting for any information. It’s a lot and he wants so badly to help Aedan here, to give him some good news, but so far, there’s nothing. So that’s a bit of stress, and things at work were hectic, not bad, but hectic. He’s glad to be home, even with his back and knee hurting a little, or a lot, from all the time spent at his desk today. He’s going to need to get one of those cushions, he thinks, as he makes his way home and to the office, though he smiles as he notices the dozing Noah there.
Oh THAT is better. He steps around to flip on the electric kettle that he left filled with water this morning, and rummages through the tea selection he keeps in here, bags because it’s easier, as he watches the pair of them for a moment.
Hmm, the chamomile should do it…
Gomez yawns at him. Noah's got a reddish plaid blanket tucked over him, and he stirs a little as the kettle burbles. "Bas?" He's slowly waking up over there. "Hey. I got too comfortable here."
“Hello, Love.” Sebastian moves over to brush a kiss over Noah’s forehead, then a more proper one. “Cal said you were up here, but didn’t say in what state. I imagine he didn’t have the heart to really move you.” he grins a little, in spite of being sore, and a little stiff today. “Would you like some tea? I’m making the water now, and I’ve got a few types up here.”
"That sounds good. How are you doing? You look like it was a day." Noah's shifting a little and carefully moving Gomez to the chair next to him so he can give Sebastian a hug. "We were working on paperwork a bit."
“It WAS a bit of one.” Sebastian winces a little. “My chair is evil. I’m ordering one of those pads that improves circulation and posture for your tailbone because I did some heinously evil things to my spine without even trying. “ He smiles and hugs Noah anyway, because that makes him feel better, somehow.
“Were you now? Anything interesting?”
"Mostly just sorting out paperwork to get rid of, some stuff about the old army stuff - checking if there's buried oil tanks that need remediation before we do other stuff. Also seeing if the plumbing put in during the war can hold up to any expansion." Noah tucks an arm around him. "I'd say order that pad now. Would you like to have tea in the bath? Or in bed with me? I could see about dinner in bed, if you haven't eaten."
“Interesting.” Sebastian says to that part, thinking about the plumbing and oil things. “That COULD cause problems with other stuff, true. And hmm relaxing a bit sounds pleasant. I don’t know if I need to go that far, but dinner on the couch with you would be rather pleasant, I’d say.” he smiles. “Just somewhere we can stretch out a bit more. Iomhar and Jacob are going out to something, Aedan’s back over at the headquarters with Emmett tonight, and I don’t believe Cal had plans to be in the library…”
"I can post on things that we'll be taking over the couch, if you don't mind that we might get Calum or Ellie stopping by." Noah runs a hand down Sebastian's spine. "Stretching out would probably help. I think another thing we could try is taking a break and a walk at lunchtime? Until you get the chair thing worked on. I know things are bad right now, with Sherr being gone, but we need to take care of ourselves too."
“That would suit us.” Sebastian nods. “It’s been nice, that Ellie’s stopping around more often now. I think you’re her favorite.” he teases, and oh that feels NICE. “Lunchtime breaks ARE a good idea. I think today, since I was at the desk all of the time, instead of getting up or changing around like usual, I’m feeling it.” And he laughs. “Is this what it’s like to be old?”
The Sherr thing, though, he’s nodding.
“I made calls about that at lunch, actually. Tried to see what Haytham is doing, since he wanted to coordinate some help. Shay’s been trying with some legwork since Abstergo LOVE him as their posterboy for Demoralizing The Assassins. He might be able to get somewhere.”
"I guess we're lucky that Abstergo seems to be still - fighting Assassins, instead of having interest in the stories in folks who aren't from here." Noah grimaces. "At least, as far as we know. That's a horrible thought. Let's have tea, and we can eat on the couch."
“Aye.” Sebastian nods. “Something about the power sources they want still being there, I suppose. And hopefully, they can be stopped now before they think of more.” He winces a little too. “It IS an awful thought. Let’s switch to tea instead. I was thinking chamomile, but what would you like?”
"How about one of those chai things? Warm spices sounds nice." Noah's getting his mug and another kiss. "I am tempted to call in an order somewhere and just have take out. What about you? Do we have leftovers?"
“An order IS a good idea.” Sebastian says. “We have a few things frozen but nothing that NEEDS to be eaten today. We could do the Pan Asian place with the noodles and soups and tempura.” He DOES like a good tempura and Aedan might be persuaded to eat the clear soup if they pick one up for him. He does like it and it seems to be pretty easy for him to manage.
"Maybe we could ask if someone could teleport here to snag a container?" Noah's digging out his phone. "Use it as an excuse to get someone to get some air? Want me to message with the menu to Aedan?"
Since let's face it, there's probably someone down in the action center who's not eaten recently and someone who's about to get kicked out to get some air. At least, Noah thinks that's how it's going.
“That’d be a good idea. And sure. Sounds like a reasonable way of going about it.” Sebastian says, nodding. “They’d probably welcome it if they’re going in shifts and all. Shay said that Arno was taking a turn for a bit tonight, see what his Sight could turn up at the restaurant since they think Sherr made it that far. He’s probably done that by now and could use the break.”
And that’d encourage Aedan to talk to him, he thinks, but doesn’t add outright. Obviously Aedan trusts Arno a lot, so…
"I'll type something up to them." Noah's typing in. "Aedan was chatting with me at the party. He admitted he's kind of wanting hugs. And that he's got ideas for what he wants to do. But - it wouldn't hurt to casually offer? Make sure he wants it, but - I think some comfort would make him happy if he's up for it. He might be willing to join us for dinner up there, if he's wanting to be near people."
“That makes sense. And we could plan for that.” Sebastian nods at Noah. “it’s good he’s talked to you about that. I think casual’s a fine way to go about it. Just in case.”
"He was saying he wants to get into therapy. Assisting juvenile people who're at risk, therapy programs. He was saying it might also be good for people coming here. Kind of our thing about having a landing pad for people." Noah's pouring his tea and leaning in for another kiss. "What'd you like to order? I'm probably going to get something spicy, or a noodle thing."
“That’s…” Sebastian nods slowly. “I’m impressed. He’d be good at it too. He was good with Courfeyrac when he got here, and he seems to be good with Emmett from what people are saying. I could see that working out for him. And hmm…” He returns the kiss. “The vegetable tempura, I think, and the miso soup.”
"How about some tofu things, just for some more protein?" Noah's absently rubbing Sebastian's back. "Let's get you a hot water bottle too, for the muscles."
“That’s a good idea.” Sebastian nods. “Probably could use that. I DID manage to have lunch today, some of the cold chicken in that spinach salad we tossed up, but a little more’s a good idea.” He smiles at Noah. “You’re good at taking care of me.”
"If it gets too much let me know. I just - like doing things that don't hurt people. And aren't manipulative." Noah's moving to get a hot water bottle. "I mean, I could sit there and pull strings and - whatever. But I don't have to. We can just do this, and be happy."
“I like it from you.” Sebastian says. “I fear I take too much advantage of you at times and don’t give enough back to you in return, but I do appreciate this. The doing this, and being happy. It means a lot.”
Noah snorts. "You came home, and you were glad to see me, and we're going to cuddle on a couch and eat takeout. I couldn't imagine having that before I got here, and it's wonderful. When you say you think you're taking too much, I just hear people telling you that wanting anything is bad."
“I could not have imagined it myself, at home, that I could want or deserve anyone like you. And less that wanting things for myself is bad now..I don’t feel that. Just that I ought to be giving you the same considerations. I worry I fall short of you at times. I suppose many people do, in relationships.”
"You're the one with the complex job." Noah's aiming them up toward the library. "I make bread and stuff like that. And really - deserving is a ridiculous thing, isn't it? I married you, because I want you in my life and tied into my affairs as long as you'd want me. A - testimony? Oath? You make me feel like I should try to figure out how to live, instead of just giving up. That's - a lot, Sebastian. You shouldn't sell yourself short."
“And you make me feel as though I’m worthy.” Sebastian says, quite seriously. “That just by being me, I AM enough for someone. I only want to care for you properly. But if you’ve got no complaints…” he smiles.
"My main complaint is that you could be wearing something more comfortable, and perhaps slippers. Want a shower while I put the order in and bring it up? " Noah kisses his cheek. "Really, I'm happy. I was worried your new job would leave you with less time for yourself, but it's not been too much, and we're still able to do this. Have time to ourselves and not delayed things that we need to do at the house."
“Hmm I can do that.” Sebastian grins. “Sounds like a plan to me.” He has a few things in mind that’ll work. The thin cotton pajama pants he grabbed a few months ago on a sale for summer seem like a good idea right now.
“I’m happy too. It’s been something we can balance well. I’m glad of that.”
"And while - there's not much I want, we can talk about it? If it makes you happy to know you're doing things for me, we can make sure that happens." Noah's heading to set down the tea kettle and the mugs. "Let me put this order in, and I'll be up there soon. Shall I fetch you in the bath when food's here?"
“Sure.” Sebastian nods. “I shouldn’t be too long. I’m going to try that muscle relaxing soap we have, I think. It works as a scrub along with bubbles so it should work nicely.”
"A good plan." Noah's absently texting Basch as well. There's probably some OTC options that Basch might know, between him and Balthier. And he can see if Aedan wants food or to send someone over.
“See you in just a bit then.” Sebastian’s heading off, grabbing something comfortable, and starting for the shower. The tshirt he grabbed is a little ridiculous, it’s from one of those ridiculous costume dramas based on the type of book his brothers claim to be writing, but he sort of likes it all the same.
Noah's gained a soft t-shirt and some loose sleeping trousers when he taps on the bathroom door before peeking in. "I've got food. And some pills that Basch says will help."
“Ah good.” Sebastian’s heading out now, toweling off his hair. He smells slightly of menthol, but that’s how it sometimes goes, right? He smiles at Noah as he heads around.
“Thank goodness for Basch.”
Noah hugs him. "I thought I'd ask." He's got tempura, the soup, his noodles, and so on. There's a little tray of sweets.
“You’re so good to me. All of you.” Sebastian doesn’t add anything about feeling like he doesn’t deserve it now. It’s just nice to have someone who DOES care for and take care of him. “Shall we settle in on the sofa, then?”
"We love you." Noah's sliding in to sit and offers his arm. "What's the shirt from? It's familiar."
“From those novels.” Sebastian’s laughing a bit as he smoothes it. “Not quite the Border Lairds but those time traveling ones. It’s the clan’s motto and crest.”
"Ah - I think Calum warned me that I might find it a bit intense." Noah suspects he's not talking about the sex. "Do you know how happy I was, early on, that you wanted me to have space for my clothing for when I slept here? I don't think I told you that, then."
“There IS quite a lot of drama.” Sebastian nods. “Overwrought in some bits. Mm and were you? I’m glad I could do that for you then. It only seemed right, having a place established for you, here.”
"It was - being welcoming and kind. I think I am too quiet about the good things you do. I feel like the little things are - I don't know." How can he put it? "You look at me in your plaid, like I am the sun rising for a ship going through cold unfamiliar waters. And all I did was get dressed for you. That's - a lot."
Sebastian smiles. “You do mean a lot to me. In everything you do.”
"I just wish - you did not feel like you were eating all the cookies, including mine." Noah smiles lopsidedly. "The bodyguard problem, I suppose. Things that are comfortable and good but you want people to know they are comfortable and good."
“I do feel that way.” Sebastian nods. “Comfortable and good that is. We’ve set things up well here, I do have to admit that. Even I haven’t managed to dredge us into too much chaos with work. Which IS thankfully looking to stay that way.”
"I even like going there, as - odd as it is." Noah's taking a bit of tempura to eat. "She's so - happy to see me."
Sebastian laughs. “Jane LOVES you, it’s true. I’m nearly jealous. But then, it’s probably the novelty.”
"Probably. Might mean I need to check with you more often?" Noah's reaching to touch his hand.
“Well, you know, *I* would certainly love that.” Sebastian takes his hand and holds it for a moment, then runs his fingers over Noah’s wrist. “I do love you.”
"I love you." Noah leans to kiss his cheek. "Do we need to do anything else tonight? Or can we eat and laze around? I've got some short story collections."
“I think we’re about set.” Sebastian grins. “Short story collections sound ideal for that.”
