Noah got off work early, and sent a text message to check if Sebastian was in the office, likely to be leaving soon, and would mind a visit. He's - being daring, to go down to the city, instead of peaking in Sebastian's office at the castle.
Sebastian’s going through some accounts, after a planning meeting, and has a few things that he needs to sign, but he’s about to head off when he gets the text, so sends one back that he’d quite like that, actually. He does send a warning about his staff being a little enamoured with Sebastian’s private life so Noah may want to be careful, and avoid a few people if he doesn’t want to gossip with a lot of them, but he’s definitely up for it.
He’s finishing up with his emails, as a last thing to do before heading out, since that doesn’t require much brainpower at all, rolling his eyes and scoffing at a few as things wrap up.
Noah, being Noah, brought flowers. Bluebells, it looks like. He's smiling though and managing to avoid too many awkward questions as he makes it up to Sebastian's area. "I did warn him ahead of time. It's no worry." He's wearing that plaid scarf that Sebastian gave him, tucked into his coat. There's a misting of rain on his shoulders like it's still sleeting or raining outside.
Sebastian grins as he closes out the email gratefully. He’s not really in the mood to deal with film crews wanting to use the castle at the moment. They’ve developed a proceedure now, it happens so often, but it’s a bit of a protracted process, and he’d as soon have his people in on it than not, so...it’s fine for the morning.
“Hello a’gradh.” He greets Noah, standing up and going for his own coat. “You make good time. Just closing things down here.” And he laughs a bit as he comes closer. “You smell like bread.”
"There may've been buns going all day." Noah offers the flowers. "For your desk, if you'd like. Or we can carry them back?"
“They’re lovely.” Sebastian grins, setting them down. “They’ll brighten things up quite a bit, I’d say.” And he looks quite pleased at that. “Nothing new on this end, I’m afraid. Some history channel programme wants to come and film downtown, Edinburgh Castle but that’s the extent of the excitement.”
"You know, I'd think the parking would be worse down here. I wonder if there's a castle that'd handle the disruption better." Noah's offering his arm. "I'm glad we could do this, a'gradh." He's clearly expecting some ridiculousness from the staff, but - look - he is glad, and if some preformative normality helps, he can do that.
“Location piece, from what the email said.” Sebastian shrugs and takes his arm. “Thankfully, it’s not strictly my area but I’ve forwarded it on and letting the council who handles that make the decision. I’m glad for that part too.” he shakes his head. “Film crews bring their own...special touch to things.”
"I've never seen them, except for when they were doing that filming using the old train tracks, near Balthier's college. A lot of the students were volunteering to be extras." Noah's heading for the door. "I can imagine though, how it'd be a thing."
“Traffic, people.” Sebastian shrugs. “I’m told it’s a bit of a circus. And the historical society getting up in arms about things being damaged. Which, I can understand but accounting for it’s a bit...much.” he smiles. “It’d be easier for other places, I’m certain. Also tourism…” He slips on his gloves and flicks up his collar as they head out now.
“Speaking of which, one of the shops downtown that does the touristy sorts of things has invited us to come and look over wedding wares.”
"You might want to pass that on to Calum. He wanted to have some photographs of us in a casual setting. Do you want to do it now?" Noah's pulling his hat back on as they get outside. "If the place seems nice, we could ask about photos."
“Oh they’d organize so we could come when there wouldn’t be a stir but it might be nice to walk by, have a look in the window and see if it looks worthwhile?” Sebastian offers. “So no one has to do anything awkward later if it’s not amazing.”
He smiles a bit at Noah.
“We’ll probably want a boot knife for you. Part of the fashion with full highland dress here. Aedan’s got one all the time, but that’s more just because.”
Noah nods. "That seems sensible enough. I'm tempted to suggest we take the quick route home if the weather turns to sleet again though. I'm warm enough, but I don't want to catch the cold that's going around work." He looks thoughtful. "What sort of knife is it? An eating one? Ceremonial?"
“Used to be for practical defense, more ceremonial these days.” Sebastian pauses. “Mostly. I’m fair sure Aedan’s actually used his in the field but I’m not asking if he’s not volunteering. I trust that he knows what he’s doing by now.” He hopes, anyway.
“And that’s a good plan. We don’t want you taking sick if we can help it. Then the whole house will end up going down. I don’t want to deal with Calum sick. It’s not exactly fun. He NEVER does, so on the rare occasions he’s got to be helpless?” He shakes his head. “It’s a confusing nightmare.”
"You see, I mostly am just used to being considered a terrible patient because I keep wanting to get back up and get back to things. There's a certain appeal to just saying I'm going to sleep in and relax. Which probably means I should just do that. When might you have time for that?" Noah's smiling at him. "The idea of doing - I don't know - a mug of something and then sleeping in sounds like a nice indulgence."
“Aye, there’s a LOT to be said for hurkle durkling.” Sebastian smiles. “Hopefully at the weekend if that’s going to work. It’s a LITTLE off, I know, but provided nothing horrible goes wrong. And of course, I still wanted to do dinner, just us, this week.”
"I could handle that. Anything in particular? Work is suggesting we do some casseroles as an option - things like lasagna and and pies. We've got a sizable group of offices that buy their break room pastries from us. I could test some recipes?" Noah's leaning a bit as they walk. "I could see that being pleasant to work on, and then we could take our plates and just be the two of us? Or were you thinking of something else?"
“That’d work out fairly nice.” Sebastian nods. “Easier that way. And my shepherd's pie’s pretty amazing if I dare say so myself.” It was one of those things he’d actually picked up back at home and worked out now, so he’s pretty confident in the fact.
Noah grins at him. "I'd love to have it. Or was that the one with the mashed potatoes that we had last winter?"
“It was, though that one wasn’t MINE.” Sebastian grins. Last winter, he had been doing a bit less in the kitchen, but things are settled down a bit now.
"Would we need to add anything to the shopping list?" Noah's digging out his phone to check, since they're out. "It looks like we're low on jam in the main kitchen, but there's no notes on preferences."
“I think we’ve got near everything.” Sebastian looks thoughtful. “Might want to top up on peas, just in case. Cheese for one, in case Aed’s not feeling it.” Cheese itself hasn’t seemed to be a problem lately, but it’s better he asks in the day to day, instead of all at once.
And he thinks for a second.
“Maybe adding some of the nicer premade stuff to the freezer’s not a bad idea either.”
"Craving it?" Noah's taking notes on the phone. "Huh. The google says there's lamb or beef versions, and one involving mushrooms. I suppose vegetarian."
“Just seems like a nice thing that’d work if it gets especially rainy.” Sebastian laughs. “Something about the rainy season makes it seem especially nice. I tended to the lamb with mine at home when it was available, they were a BIT more common to the area but I like the beef as much. A mushroom wouldn’t be bad at that. Had it in a pub with the beef stewed instead of ground and that was a little odd. Didn’t taste bad, but if you’re doing that, go for a stew, I’d say.”
"Or call it - what is it - the genius pie? With the steak? Though I thought that was some beer reference. The interest in kidneys in pie with no one else cooking with them is odd here. You'd get them on skewers sometimes, rolled in chiles and salt along with other grilled meats." Noah's got an arm around the small of Sebastian's back. "Perhaps we could buy one of the commercial ones for tonight? The rain's chilling." He's a little cold himself, but it's warm, walking with Sebastian, and they do have things to do.
“There’s an M&S up the road a bit,” Sebastian notes. “Their grocery section only. The larger store’s a bit over, but we could avoid that entirely.” He doesn’t feel like making a run to Waitrose tonight, after all.
"The knife seller first though, right? To see what they have that looks good." Noah squeezes his hand. "It still feels amazing for me, you know."
“Sounds like a good plan.” Sebastian squeezes back. “And me. I never thought I’d be so happy as all THIS.”
"You deserve all the happiness I can give you." Noah's probably sounding too earnest, but it's honest. "And it's chilly out. Let's get moving, okay?"
“Aye,let’s.” Sebastian picks up his pace a little, happily going along with Noah. “Onward and out.” Any luck, it all goes well.
